Tuesday 1th July 1997

From to Gloucester Docks arriving at : am. The time taken was 0 minutes. 0 miles and 0 locks, averaging 0 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 184 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 292 locks, averaging 2.13 lock/miles per hour.

The River Severn was running too fast for us to go up to Tewksbury on Saturday (28th). Got a pumpout just through the bridge (5). We went shopping in the morning and went round the Antiques Centre in the afternoon where we bought 2 little plates which I hung in our bedroom. Still running too fast on Sunday so spent another day in the docks. Both days cloudy but dry with some rain inthe evening. Monday and Tuesday also waiting for the flood to subside. Moored all the time by Petra and Poppy. Continuing cloudy and mostly dry.

Wednesday 2th July 1997

From Gloucester Docks to Strensham Lock arriving at 1:30 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 15 minutes. 17.87 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.78 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 189 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 294 locks, averaging 2.08 lock/miles per hour.

Escaped at last from Gloucester Docks and pushed up the Severn and on to the Avon. Saw two kingfishers on the Severn and a Curlew on the Avon. Paid 42 for the combined upper and lower Avon licence. Stopped for water at the lock (50p).

From Strensham Lock to Nafford Lock arriving at 3:35 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 45 minutes. 4.5 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3.14 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 191 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 295 locks, averaging 2.07 lock/miles per hour.

Had lunch on the move and moored at Comberton Quay. A mostly dry and cloudy day with increasing sunny intervals. Rain inthe evening.

Thursday 3th July 1997

From Nafford Lock to Pershore Lock arriving at 10:55 am. The time taken was 1 hour 45 minutes. 5.5 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3.71 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 192 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 296 locks, averaging 2.05 lock/miles per hour.

Caught up with Siga Siga at Pershore lock. Saw a kingfisher fly across the lock cut while I was waiting to take the boat in. Stopped for shopping in the Pioneer (Co-op) supermarket at Pershore.

From Pershore Lock to Fladbury Lock arriving at 4:05 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 5 minutes. 5.12 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.42 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 194 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 298 locks, averaging 2.04 lock/miles per hour.

Saw Petra and the man from Poppy as we went pas Wyre Mill. Saw some kingfishers near Cropthorne. Moored on the visitor moorings at Craycombe turn. A cloudy but mostly dry day.

Friday 4th July 1997

From Fladbury Lock to George Billington Lock arriving at 11:40 am. The time taken was 2 hours 40 minutes. 8.75 miles and 2 locks, averaging 4.03 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 197 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 300 locks, averaging 2.03 lock/miles per hour.

Saw a kingfisher fly across the river as we entered Evesham Lock and later sa one perched on a tree. Rattling noises coming from the engine compartment this mornning and when we stopped above the lock for water and lunch one of the Sea-power belts came apart. Rang Beta Marine to arrange for new belts to be sent to Stratford-upon-Avon. In the meantime Sea-power is runnng on one belt only.

From George Billington Lock to Bidford Bridge arriving at 5:00 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 45 minutes. 4.75 miles and 3 locks, averaging 4.43 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 199 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 303 locks, averaging 2.02 lock/miles per hour.

Came through the locks with Hewon, a cruiser style narrowboat from Huntingdon. Moored on the town visitor moorings. A day of sunshine and cloud.

Saturday 5th July 1997

From Bidford Bridge to Weir Brake Lock arriving at 12:55 am. The time taken was 3 hours 35 minutes. 8.87 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.59 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 202 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 307 locks, averaging 2.01 lock/miles per hour.

Had trouble starting the boat again this morning and had to use the cabin batteries boosted by the battery charger. Stopped for lunch above the lock.

From Weir Brake Lock to Stratford Bridge arriving at 3:10 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 10 minutes. 0.62 miles and 2 locks, averaging 2.25 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 204 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 309 locks, averaging 2 lock/miles per hour.

Went up to Stratford Marine to try to get the electrics fixed but too many hire boats there to get in (turn round day) so came back through the hoards of boats to moor opposite the theatre. Went in to town for shpping. A dry and mostly sunny day.

Sunday 6th.The man came out from Stratford Marina as we could not start the boat at all today. He fixed the problem (coroded battery terminal). Went on a Guiecting de Friday tour, stopping at Anne Hathaway's Cottage. Monday 7th. The post we are expecting did not arrive. Went into Stratford Marina for some gas (11.50) and left a 10 donation for the man who fixed the boat. Had lunch at the Garrick (Rack of Lamb 8.65, Bangers and Mash 4.45). Saw the Merry Wives of Windsor in the evening. A hot day. Tuesday 8th. Got the post then put on the new Sea-power belts, did the 2840 hours service. Very hot and sunny today.

Wednesday 9th July 1997

From Stratford Bridge to Wilmcote Bridge No 59 arriving at 1:40 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 35 minutes. 3.62 miles and 17 locks, averaging 4.5 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 208 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 326 locks, averaging 2.04 lock/miles per hour.

Filled up with water on the Avon before going through the barge lock on to the canal. A boat in front of us going up the locks and met several boats coming down. Moored for lunch on the visitor moorings by the bridge.

From Wilmcote Bridge No 59 to Wootton Wawen Aqueduct arriving at 4:30 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 5 minutes. 3.37 miles and 1 locks, averaging 2.1 lock/miles per hour. Moored just past bridge 50. A hot day, mostly sunny in the morning but increasing cloud in the afternoon.

Thursday 10th July 1997

From Wootton Wawen Aqueduct to Hatton Top Lock No 46 arriving at 4:05 pm. The time taken was 6 hours 45 minutes. 11.25 miles and 18 locks, averaging 4.33 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 217 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 345 locks, averaging 2.05 lock/miles per hour.

Came up the Stratford Canal behind Old Peculiar, a short narrowboat with a man, a woman and a dachshund aboard. Had a late lunch on the move once we had passed Kingswood Junction. Moored just before bridge 55. A cool cloudy morning but a sunny and warm afternoon.

Friday 11th July 1997

From Hatton Top Lock No 46 to Cape Top Lock No 25 arriving at 12:30 am. The time taken was 3 hours 45 minutes. 2.75 miles and 21 locks, averaging 6.33 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 221 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 366 locks, averaging 2.11 lock/miles per hour.

Moved down to Hatton top lock and filled with water while we waited to see if anotherr boat would come to share the locks with us. BW say wait 45 minutes but the tap was so slow that it took us 55 minutes to fill up. Saw Mallard (the people I met on car park duty at Dudley) coming up the locks. Had lunch at the Cape of Good Hope (Sausage, egg, beans and chiips 2.75 and Chicken and mushroom pie 4.25), very good.

From Cape Top Lock No 25 to Leam Bridge No 44 arriving at 3:00 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 10 minutes. 1.87 miles and 1 locks, averaging 2.46 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 222 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 367 locks, averaging 2.1 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped at Kate Boats for a pumpout (10) and to get rid of the old engine oil. Then went on to Moor at the Tiller Pin to do the shopping at Sainsbury's.

From Leam Bridge No 44 to Radford Road Bridge No 35 arriving at 7:20 pm. The time taken was 50 minutes. 2.37 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.84 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 223 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 367 locks, averaging 2.09 lock/miles per hour.

After tea we moved down to a mooring about half way between the road bridge and the lock. Rang Eileen to finalise the arrangements for her visit. A warm and sunny day.

Saturday 12th July 1997

From Radford Road Bridge No 35 to Cuttle Bridge No 25, Long Itchington arriving at 12:05 am. The time taken was 3 hours 20 minutes. 5.12 miles and 10 locks, averaging 4.54 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 226 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 377 locks, averaging 2.11 lock/miles per hour.

Made good progress through the locks and stopped for lunch etc at the Two Boats (Plaice 4.25, Peppered butterfly chicken 5.25). A very good lunch and much entertainment proviided by a wedding party that seemed to consist wholly of the local licenced trade.

From Cuttle Bridge No 25, Long Itchington to Napton Bridge No 111 arriving at 6:35 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 25 minutes. 5.25 miles and 13 locks, averaging 5.34 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 229 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 390 locks, averaging 2.13 lock/miles per hour.

Came up the Stockton fight and through Calcutt locks. Very busy near the junction with hire boats setting off from various local bases. Moored a little way before the bridge. A warm and mostly sunny day.

Sunday 13th July 1997

From Napton Bridge No 111 to Greens Lock No 14 arriving at 1:45 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 5 minutes. 2.12 miles and 7 locks, averaging 2.96 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 233 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 397 locks, averaging 2.13 lock/miles per hour.

Filled with water at the bottom lock (35 minutes) then had to wait (35 minutes included in cruising time) for our turn to go through the locks. We were behind Norwagians on two hire boats. Stopped to see Ken and Margaret Froud at the lock and went aboard Duorf II aftter lunch.

From Greens Lock No 14 to Napton Top Lock No 16 arriving at 5:40 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 10 minutes. 0.87 miles and 2 locks, averaging 1.32 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 235 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 399 locks, averaging 2.12 lock/miles per hour.

There were seven boats in front of us at lock 15 and it took us an hour to get to the front of the queue. The steam boat Monarch was in front of us and Gorse was behind us. Moored a little way beyond the top lock. A rainy start gave way to a suny day.

Monday 14th July 1997

From Napton Top Lock No 16 to Claydon Top Lock No 17 arriving at 12:45 am. The time taken was 3 hours 45 minutes. 11 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3.2 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 238 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 400 locks, averaging 2.09 lock/miles per hour.

Met a few boats on the summit level including White Rose and Dipper, both from Sheffield. There were 4 or 5 boats waiting to go through the top lock so we had lunch before going down. Between Claydon Top Lock No 17 and Claydon Bottom Lock No 21: Monarch - 14th July 1997.

Monday 14th July 1997

From Claydon Top Lock No 17 to Cropredy Lock No 25 arriving at 5:50 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 30 minutes. 2.75 miles and 8 locks, averaging 3.07 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 242 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 408 locks, averaging 2.1 lock/miles per hour.

Followed a boat full of Americans down the locks. They were on a boat called Sulis from Midland Canal Centre. When we got to Elington's lock there were seven boats in front of us waiting, it took about 45 minutes to reach the lock. Beryl left the lock key behind and at the next lock we met Nick Sander's who sold me his video for 10 and I left the top paddle up. Moored above the lock and went to the Red Lion for dinner (Jumbo Cod 4.95 and Potato skins 5.95). Met Rodney Evans and his wife on Alchera. A mainly sunny day.

Tuesday 15th July 1997

From Cropredy Lock No 25 to Banbury Lock No 29 arriving at 11:05 am. The time taken was 2 hours 35 minutes. 4.5 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.29 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 245 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 412 locks, averaging 2.09 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped for water (10 minutes) at Cropredy. Saw Nancy Bell moored just south of the village. Passed Lorna Jean of Chrik. Moored above tthe lock for shopping. Had lunch on the boat.

From Banbury Lock No 29 to Twyford Bridge No 177 arriving at 3:15 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 15 minutes. 2.75 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 246 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 413 locks, averaging 2.08 lock/miles per hour.

Saw some more yellowhammers as we came down the canal, we saw two at a lock yesterday. Moored just before the bridge. A sunny day with a breeze.

Wednesday 16th July 1997

From Twyford Bridge No 177 to Thrupp Bend arriving at 6:10 pm. The time taken was 8 hours 50 minutes. 17.87 miles and 11 locks, averaging 3.27 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 255 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 424 locks, averaging 2.05 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped at Aynho Wharf for 20 minutes for diesel (159.1 litres, 35) also stopped for about 10 minutes at Lower Heyford to see if they had Waterways World, they hadn't. Had lunch on the move. Saw some goldfinches and a kingfisher. Moored on the visitor moorings and went to the refurbished Boat Inn after dinner. A mostly sunny day following a cloudly start.

Thursday 17th July 1997

From Thrupp Bend to Dukes Lock No 44 arriving at 11:30 am. The time taken was 2 hours 5 minutes. 3.5 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.12 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 257 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 427 locks, averaging 2.05 lock/miles per hour.

Followed Joshua down the locks but they were very slow. Stopped for water above the lock and found that Joshua was stuck in the lock as something was obstructing the bottom gate. We had lunch and BW were summoned They responded quickly and soon remove a waterlogged baulk of timber.

From Dukes Lock No 44 to Isis Lock No 46 arriving at 2:40 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 55 minutes. 3 miles and 2 locks, averaging 2.61 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 259 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 429 locks, averaging 2.04 lock/miles per hour.

Moored just abve the lock and went into town for shopping. A mostly cloudy day with a few light showers aand evening sunshine.

Friday 18th July 1997

From Isis Lock No 46 to Whitchurch Lock arriving at 5:05 pm. The time taken was 8 hours 35 minutes. 32.5 miles and 11 locks, averaging 5.07 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 267 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 440 locks, averaging 2.02 lock/miles per hour.

Started off through Isis Lock at 8.30 so that we were ready to go when the lock keeper started at 9am. Cleared some plastic from the prop then went in and paaid the licence (34 for two days). Pushed on down the river having lunch on the move. Saw 6 kingfishers, a cormorant and Great Creasted Grebes. Moored at the Swan at Pangbourne for dinner (Chicken Tika Marsala 5.95, Mushroom Wellington 6.15). A cloudy day with some light showers and sunny periods in the afternoon.

Saturday 19th July 1997

From Whitchurch Lock to Blakes Lock arriving at 11:45 am. The time taken was 2 hours 50 minutes. 7.62 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.75 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 270 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 443 locks, averaging 2.01 lock/miles per hour.

Came down the Thames with James Brindley, a narrowboat from Horton on the K&A. No keeper at Blakes Lock when we came through. Moored by the prison and went shopping. Had lunch in Yates's Wine Lodge (Cheese Jacket Potato 2.55 and Cheese & Bacon Bagette 2.65).

Sunday 20th July 1997

From Blakes Lock to Sulhampstead Lock No 100 arriving at 1:45 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 20 minutes. 7.25 miles and 7 locks, averaging 3.29 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 274 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 450 locks, averaging 2 lock/miles per hour.

Saw a kingfisher and lots of large dragonflies as we came up the river. Stopped for lunch etc. just before the lock.

From Sulhampstead Lock No 100 to Tyle Mill Lock No 99 arriving at 6:55 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 5 minutes. 1 miles and 1 locks, averaging 1.85 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 275 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 451 locks, averaging 2 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped for water at Tyle Mill Swing Bridge for 45 minutes - the tank was neearly empty - then came through the bridge and lock and on a little way to a quite mooring by a field. A hot sunny day.

From Tyle Mill Lock No 99 to Midgham Lock No 92 arriving at 12:40 am. The time taken was 4 hours 15 minutes. 5.75 miles and 6 locks, averaging 2.76 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 280 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 457 locks, averaging 1.99 lock/miles per hour.

A morning of locks and swing bridges. Saw a kingfisher. Moored for lunch just above the lock.

From Midgham Lock No 92 to Greenham Lock No 86 arriving at 5:15 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 30 minutes. 4.25 miles and 6 locks, averaging 2.93 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 283 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 463 locks, averaging 1.98 lock/miles per hour.

More locks and swing bridges. Moored opposite Newbury Wharf and dashed round to the Post Office to collect the mail. A hot and sunny day.

Tuesday 22nd July 1997

From Greenham Lock No 86 to Hamstead Lock No 81 arriving at 1:10 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 5 minutes. 4 miles and 5 locks, averaging 4.32 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 285 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 468 locks, averaging 1.99 lock/miles per hour.

Went into Newbury to the bank and shops before setting off. Came through some locks with Bramble, a hire boat from Berry Hillat Caversham. Stopped for lunch just below the lock, we moored to a BW barge as the banks were shallow.

From Hamstead Lock No 81 to Hungerford Lock No 74 arriving at 6:05 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 50 minutes. 5.5 miles and 7 locks, averaging 3.26 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 289 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 475 locks, averaging 1.99 lock/miles per hour.

Came up to Kintbury by ourselves but paired up with another boat (Ionnes ??) for the other locks. Stopped for water (15 minutes) just before the town. No moorings available so we went on to the lock, which we found was locked until 9am tomorrow, so we moored there. A hot and sunny day.

Wednesday 23rd July 1997

From Hungerford Lock No 74 to Great Bedwyn Church Lock No 64 arriving at 1:35 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 35 minutes. 5.25 miles and 10 locks, averaging 3.33 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 294 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 485 locks, averaging 1.99 lock/miles per hour.

Came up the locks alone as a pair of narrowboats behind us wanted to stay together.Quite a few boats coming down including several Reading Marine and a Sally Boat. Moored just below the lock for lunch and Beryl cut my hair. No passage through this lock until 9am tomorrow. A hot sunny day.

Thursday 24th July 1997

From Great Bedwyn Church Lock No 64 to Crofton Top Lock No 55 arriving at 12:55 am. The time taken was 3 hours 55 minutes. 2.37 miles and 9 locks, averaging 2.9 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 298 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 494 locks, averaging 1.99 lock/miles per hour.

We were ready to go at 9am when the lock opened but we had to let two pairs of boats go before us. We were paired with Gollum and stated off at about 9.25. When we got to lock 61 the cable on our gear lever broke and we colled BW. The lock keeper came and arranged for Tim Stevens (Marine Engineer) to meet us at lock 58, where we stopped for lunch. He soon came and fitted a new cable (57).

From Crofton Top Lock No 55 to New Mill Bridge arriving at 6:00 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 0 minutes. 4.25 miles and 4 locks, averaging 2.06 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 302 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 498 locks, averaging 1.98 lock/miles per hour.

Made slow progress through the locks and over the summit due to the low water levels. Saw two kingfishers at Wootton Rivers.Moored just past Curret Crown bridge way out from the bank. A mainly cloudy day with sunny interval early in the day and rain later.

Friday 25th July 1997

From New Mill Bridge to Devizes Top Lock No 50 arriving at 3:35 pm. The time taken was 6 hours 40 minutes. 14 miles and 1 locks, averaging 2.25 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 308 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 499 locks, averaging 1.94 lock/miles per hour.

Made an early start (8.20) and saw a kingfsher soon after setting off. Stopped at Gibson's at Honey Street wharf for pumpout (8 - no blue) and water. September Rose stopped for diesel while we were there. Had lunch on the move and came down the first three locks with September Dawn from Marsh Lock. Moored at the Black Horse and went shopping at Somerfield's. Had dinner at the pub (Battered Cod 3.95, Chicken Kiev 4.95). A warm sunny day.

Came down the locks in the rain, locks 44 to 22 with September Dawn. Went to the Three Magpies for lunch, etc. (Lamb in blackcurrent sauce 7.95 each). A mostly rainy day.

Sunday 27th July 1997

From Sells Green Bridge to Semington Bottom Lock No 15 arriving at 4:40 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 20 minutes. 4 miles and 7 locks, averaging 3.3 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 316 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 534 locks, averaging 2 lock/miles per hour.

Walked up the Devizes flight to take pictures this morning. Shared the Seend locks with a forty foot cruiser style narrowboat named Totty. Moored just past the bridge by the bottom lock. Had dinner at the Somerset Arms (Mushroom & Stiilton Bake 3.25, Rabbit and mustard pie 6.95) A hot and sunny day with a bit of a breeze.

Monday 28th July 1997

From Semington Bottom Lock No 15 to Bradford-on-Avon Lock No 14 arriving at 11:25 am. The time taken was 2 hours 30 minutes. 5 miles and 1 locks, averaging 2.4 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 318 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 535 locks, averaging 1.99 lock/miles per hour.

Followed Pallas Athenne through the swing bridge and down the canal as far as Hillperton, where they moored. We stopped above the lock and went into town then came back to Budgens for shopping before lunch.

Totals for this voyage are 319 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 535 locks, averaging 1.99 lock/miles per hour.

Set off at 13.45 for water but had to wait for another boat to fill up before we could. H D Mopetty waited with us and went through the lock with us after they had filled with water. We finished filling with water at 15.05. Moored just below the lock. A hot sunny day.

Tuesday 29th July 1997

From Bradford-on-Avon Lock No 14 to Avoncliffe Aqueduct arriving at 11:40 am. The time taken was 40 minutes. 1.5 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.25 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 320 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 535 locks, averaging 1.98 lock/miles per hour.

Walked down to Avoncliffe and took some pictures before setting off this morning. Saw a kingfisher on the Avon. Moored just before the aqueduct and went to the Canal Bookshop and bought The Thames & Severn Canal. Had lunch at the Cross Guns (Ham salad and Cheese & onion bagettes 2.75 each).

From Avoncliffe Aqueduct to Bath Top Lock No 13 arriving at 4:30 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 25 minutes. 7.62 miles and 1 locks, averaging 2.52 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 323 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 536 locks, averaging 1.96 lock/miles per hour.

Thursday 31st July 1997

From Bath Top Lock No 13 to Bath Old Bridge arriving at 12:00 am. The time taken was 1 hour 45 minutes. 0.87 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.35 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 325 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 541 locks, averaging 1.97 lock/miles per hour.

After spending a whole day looking round Bath we came down the locks, filling with water (20 minutes) on the way. Moored on the river at the BW moorings and went shopping at Sainsbury's - two trips. A cloudy and breezy day.
