From to Wigan Pier arriving at 10:40 am. The time taken was 1 hour 40 minutes. 1.5 miles and 2 locks, averaging 2.1 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 145 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 167 locks, averaging 1.83 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped for water below the bottom lock.

From Wigan Pier to Leigh Branch Junction arriving at 11:50 am. The time taken was 50 minutes. 0.5 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 146 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 169 locks, averaging 1.84 lock/miles per hour.

Moored at the bottom of lock 85 ready to go up the flight at 1pm. Emma from Aquatic came to help us moor and to tell us that they were going up with us. Had lunch.

From Leigh Branch Junction to Wigan Top Lock No 65 arriving at 4:00 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 30 minutes. 2 miles and 20 locks, averaging 6.29 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 150 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 189 locks, averaging 1.93 lock/miles per hour.

Start off at 12.30 up through the locks with Harrold, Christine and Emma on Aquatic. Most of the locks were empty and the gates open, the lock keepers joined us later. At 6pm we went down to Kirklees Hall with our new found friends and had dinner (Plaice 2.35, Chicken 2.55). Played pool and darts, a very good evening.

Thursday 2th May 1996

From Wigan Top Lock No 65 to Johnson's Hill Bottom Lock No 64 arriving at 12:15 am. The time taken was 3 hours 20 minutes. 10.25 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3.38 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 153 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 190 locks, averaging 1.89 lock/miles per hour.

A cold windy trip up to the locks where we moored for lunch. Aquatic came up behind us as we moored. Saw Vagabond on their way back from Skipton.

From Johnson's Hill Bottom Lock No 64 to Withnell Fold Bridge No 88 arriving at 2:55 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 55 minutes. 2.25 miles and 7 locks, averaging 4.83 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 155 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 197 locks, averaging 1.91 lock/miles per hour.

Moored with Aquatic between Brown House and Jackson's bridges (86 & 87) after going through the locks together. A cold windy day, but dry.

Friday 3th May 1996

From Withnell Fold Bridge No 88 to Enam Bridge No 103A arriving at 12:30 am. The time taken was 3 hours 50 minutes. 7.25 miles and 6 locks, averaging 3.46 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 159 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 203 locks, averaging 1.9 lock/miles per hour.

Left and went through the locks with Aquatic. At Feniscowles we saw Zeguerner and at Cherry Tree Bridge we tried to rescue someone's spectecles from the canal but it was too shallow to get near them. Had lunch at the Wharf (Plaice 3.50, Gammon Steak 3.60) then went shopping in town and stocked up at Morrison's supermarket. A cold day, with sunshine in the morning but cloudy in the afternoon.

Sunday 5th May 1996

From Enam Bridge No 103A to Burnley BWB Depot arriving at 1:40 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 15 minutes. 15.75 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 164 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 203 locks, averaging 1.84 lock/miles per hour.

Having spent two nights at Eanam Wharf and going into the town centre several times to get the phone cradle fixed we left for Burnley. Saw a kingfisher at Church again. Had lunch on the way and stopped for water at the BWB depot.

From Burnley BWB Depot to Godley Bridge No 130H arriving at 2:55 pm. The time taken was 35 minutes. 0.75 miles and 0 locks, averaging 1.29 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 165 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 203 locks, averaging 1.84 lock/miles per hour.

Having filled with water we went on a little way and moored just past the road aqueduct by Sainsbury's, next to Aquatic. A bright sunny day but rather cold in the morning.

Monday 6th May 1996

From Godley Bridge No 130H to Salterforth Bridge No 151 arriving at 12:25 am. The time taken was 4 hours 15 minutes. 10.25 miles and 7 locks, averaging 4.06 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 169 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 210 locks, averaging 1.83 lock/miles per hour.

Set off from Burnley at eight and got to Barrowford bottom lock ten minutes before opening time (10.00am). Went through the locks with Pathfinder. Only had to wait a couple of minutes at Foulridge Tunnel for the green light. Stopped aatt the Anchor for lunch (Ham sandwich and salad 2.75, Chip butty 1.20).

From Salterforth Bridge No 151 to Coates Bridge No 154A arriving at 2:00 pm. The time taken was 20 minutes. 2 miles and 0 locks, averaging 6 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 169 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 210 locks, averaging 1.83 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped at Lower Park Marina, Barnoldswick, for gas (10.60), pumpout (10) and 28.5 gallons of diesel (29.67). Beryl got some shopping in the shop there.

From Coates Bridge No 154A to South Field Bridge No 159 arriving at 4:35 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 10 minutes. 2 miles and 3 locks, averaging 2.31 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 171 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 213 locks, averaging 1.82 lock/miles per hour.

Went through the Greenberfield locks, meeting four boats coming up, and moored just after the bridge. A mostly sunny day wth some cloudy periods. Fairly warm.

Tuesday 7th May 1996

From South Field Bridge No 159 to Higherland Lock No 32 arriving at 1:10 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 50 minutes. 5.25 miles and 9 locks, averaging 2.95 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 176 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 222 locks, averaging 1.82 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped for water at East Marton (8.55-9.20). When we arrived at Bank Newton locks at 9.50 we found four boats queing in front of us, we went through the first lock at 10.15. Moored just before the lock and went to lunch at The Old Swan (Lemon Sole 4.95, Vegtable Lasagne 4.75). After lunch etc. we stayed on. Wednesday 8th May 1996

From Higherland Lock No 32 to Skipton Junction arriving at 11:50 am. The time taken was 2 hours 50 minutes. 5 miles and 3 locks, averaging 2.82 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 179 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 225 locks, averaging 1.81 lock/miles per hour.

Filled with water at the lock at Gargrave. Stopped for lunch, to collect post (not arrived yet) and to do shoping at Morrison's. Cloudy with sunny intervals.

Thursday 9th May 1996

From Skipton Junction to Silsden Bridge No 191A arriving at 1:15 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 30 minutes. 6.75 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.7 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 181 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 225 locks, averaging 1.79 lock/miles per hour.

Collected the post and did a bit more shopping, came back to the boat sorted out the post and posted off a cheque for TSB chargecard. Came through the swing bridges with Pudding No 2. Stopped just before the bridge for lunch etc. A cloudy and windy day with some sunny intervals.

Friday 10th May 1996

From Silsden Bridge No 191A to Shipley Road Bridges No 207A arriving at 2:20 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 20 minutes. 9.75 miles and 11 locks, averaging 3.89 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 187 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 236 locks, averaging 1.79 lock/miles per hour.

Posted letters and postcards and bought a "My Weekly" for Beryl before setting off. Went through the locks and swing bridges with Merchant 2, who had started from Skipton at 6am. Took on some water at Bingley while waiting for the lock keeper. Had lunch on the move. Were invited into Merchant 2 for a cup of tea and they loaned us some guide books on the Chesterfield (their home base) and SSSY canals. The day started sunny but cloud increased and the rain came as we moored.

Saturday 11th May 1996

From Shipley Road Bridges No 207A to Horsforth Road Bridge No 216A arriving at 12:25 am. The time taken was 3 hours 30 minutes. 6.62 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.32 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 190 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 241 locks, averaging 1.79 lock/miles per hour.

Saw a pair of grey wagtails at Apperley locks and a kingfisher in the wooded stretch afterwards. Early rain cleared as we went through the locks and swing bridges with Merchant 2. Moored on the visitor moorings just after Rodley swing bridge. Cleared more rubbish from the prop. After lunch we had a walk round the village and went to a shop for a few things. Another cool cloudy day.

Sunday 12th May 1996

From Horsforth Road Bridge No 216A to Office Lock No 2 arriving at 1:35 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 55 minutes. 5.87 miles and 11 locks, averaging 4.31 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 194 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 252 locks, averaging 1.81 lock/miles per hour.

Started off at 8.55 and arrived at the locks at 9.35. The lock keeper unlocked the paddles so we could go through at 9.55. Stopped for water with Merchant 2 above Office lock at 12.55. Moored on the new visitor's moorings below the lock. A cloudy day with some sunny intervals. A lot of anglers around today.

Monday 13th May 1996

From Office Lock No 2 to King's Road Lock No 3 arriving at 5:05 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 45 minutes. 13.5 miles and 9 locks, averaging 3.91 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 200 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 261 locks, averaging 1.8 lock/miles per hour.

Went shopping in Leeds then set off through River Lock on to the Aire and Calder. Got held up for about half an hour at Lemonroyd Lock as they had a fault with the hydrolics. Moored on the visitor's moorings just before the lock. A fairly warm and sunny day with cloudy periods, the best so far this year.

Tuesday 14th May 1996

From King's Road Lock No 3 to Broad Cut Low Lock No 3 arriving at 1:20 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 50 minutes. 7.37 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.23 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 204 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 266 locks, averaging 1.79 lock/miles per hour.

Tried to stop for water at Birkwood Lock but found that the tap was dry. Saw the Kathleen Marie at Stanley Ferry Marina. Had a bit of trouble passing a car dumped in the entrance of Thornes Flood Lock. Filled with water at Broad Cut Low Lock while we had our rolls then went on to the Navigation for a drink.

From Broad Cut Low Lock No 3 to Forge Lane Bridge arriving at 5:00 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 45 minutes. 5 miles and 6 locks, averaging 4 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 207 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 272 locks, averaging 1.8 lock/miles per hour.

Saw several orange tip butterflies today. At Figure of Three Locks we had to wait for a barge with a crane and tug to come out of the lock. Then we were joind in the lock by Lady Rhodes, Kirklees Community Narrowboat, with an all female party of Probation Service workers. We sharred locks with them until we moored. Went down the road to the Blackers Arms for dinner (Haddock 3.40, Lamb Cutlets 3.80) very good value. A warm sunny day, the first that I have steered without a jumper.

Wednesday 15th May 1996

From Forge Lane Bridge to Brighouse Basin Entrance arriving at 12:50 am. The time taken was 3 hours 35 minutes. 7 miles and 8 locks, averaging 4.19 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 210 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 280 locks, averaging 1.8 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped for water and lunch. Went through Batty Ford Lock with Lady Rhodes, but a completely different crew from yesterday's.

From Brighouse Basin Entrance to Sowerby Bridge Basin arriving at 5:45 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 20 minutes. 6.37 miles and 10 locks, averaging 3.78 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 214 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 290 locks, averaging 1.81 lock/miles per hour.

Saw Pamandy coming down from Sowerby Bridge. Had to stop for about 10 minutes to remoor a Springer which had drifted right across the cut near Sowerby Bridge. Moored in the basin. A cloudy day, dry except for some fine rain briefly this morning.

Thursday 16th May 1996

From Sowerby Bridge Basin to Brearley Upper Lock No 6 arriving at 4:10 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 5 minutes. 3.12 miles and 5 locks, averaging 2.63 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 218 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 295 locks, averaging 1.81 lock/miles per hour.

Went shopping at Kwik Save. Got 3 canal Magazines, including the new Canal Boat. Canal and River Boat have published my Yorkshire Journey article. Had a pump out at Shire Cruisers (9) and had lunch before setting off. Paid for the Rochdale Canal licence (27) at Tuel lane Lock. Moored outside the White Lion at Mytholmroyd. A mostly cloudy and cool day.

Friday 17th May 1996

From Brearley Upper Lock No 6 to Mayroyd Mill Lock No 8 arriving at 11:40 am. The time taken was 1 hour 20 minutes. 2.12 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.09 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 219 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 297 locks, averaging 1.81 lock/miles per hour.

Did an oil and oil filter change. Saw Canny and a Shire cruiser coming through Broadbottom lock. Stopped for water at Hebden Bridge.

From Mayroyd Mill Lock No 8 to Stubbing Upper Lock No 11 arriving at 1:20 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 20 minutes. 0.75 miles and 3 locks, averaging 2.81 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 220 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 300 locks, averaging 1.81 lock/miles per hour.

Had lunch at the Stubbing Wharf Hotel (Haddock 3.95, Sausage, yorkshire pud and gravy 2.95).

From Stubbing Upper Lock No 11 to Lob Mill Lock No 16 arriving at 4:50 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 45 minutes. 2.62 miles and 5 locks, averaging 2.77 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 223 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 305 locks, averaging 1.81 lock/miles per hour.

Realised that we should have stopped cruising at 4pm due to lock restrictions imposed to save water. Moored after the lock. A mainly cool and cloudy day but sunshine this evening.

Saturday 18th May 1996

From Lob Mill Lock No 16 to Gauxholme Highest Lock No 24 arriving at 12:55 am. The time taken was 3 hours 15 minutes. 2.12 miles and 8 locks, averaging 3.11 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 226 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 313 locks, averaging 1.82 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped for lunch above the lock. Beryl met David Evans, of the Rochdale Canal Society, at Todmorden lock.

From Gauxholme Highest Lock No 24 to Bottomley Lock No 33 arriving at 4:40 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 10 minutes. 1.62 miles and 9 locks, averaging 3.35 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 229 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 322 locks, averaging 1.84 lock/miles per hour.

Met David Evans at Hollings Lock and he helped us through all the following locks. Moored just before Warland Lower Lock. A cool and cloudy start tothe day but the afternoon saw increasing sunny periods and warmer tempratures.

Sunday 19th May 1996

From Bottomley Lock No 33 to Longlees Lock No 36 arriving at 12:15 am. The time taken was 2 hours 30 minutes. 0.62 miles and 3 locks, averaging 1.45 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 232 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 325 locks, averaging 1.83 lock/miles per hour.

This morning found we were moored on the site of a fishing match. Set off through the last three locks tothe summit. Coming out of Longlees Lock we were stopped by the lady from the lock house who sold us a plaque (6). We went down to Lock 37 (Closed because of the water shortage) and found we could not turn there. We had to tow the boat backwards for the length of about half the pound before we found a turning place. Came back through lock 36 before mooring for lunch, etc. Went to the Bird in the Hand for lunch (Plaice Diepe 4.95, Chicken Balti 4.95) very busy, we had to wait for a table, but a good pub. A cloudy day with some light rain.

Monday 20th May 1996

From Longlees Lock No 36 to Hollings Lock No 27 arriving at 12:55 am. The time taken was 2 hours 30 minutes. 1.75 miles and 9 locks, averaging 4.3 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 234 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 334 locks, averaging 1.85 lock/miles per hour.

Left at 9.55 and at 11.55 stopped for water above Travis Lock, No 28, for half an hour. Moored for lunch outside the school below the lock.

From Hollings Lock No 27 to Todmorden Lock No 19 arriving at 4:15 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 25 minutes. 1.37 miles and 8 locks, averaging 3.88 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 237 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 342 locks, averaging 1.86 lock/miles per hour.

Took on a lot of water that was flooding over the gate of the short Todmorden Lock, more water in the engine room now but no real damage. Moored below the lock and went to Kwik Save for some shopping and to the TSB to draw out some cash. A mostly sunny day with some brief showers of rain and hail.

Tuesday 21st May 1996

From Todmorden Lock No 19 to Callis Lock No 13 arriving at 12:20 am. The time taken was 2 hours 35 minutes. 2.87 miles and 6 locks, averaging 3.43 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 239 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 348 locks, averaging 1.87 lock/miles per hour.

After bailing out the water from the engine room that we acquired at Todmorden Lock we set off. Passed quite a few boats some of them Shire Cruiser's coming up from Sowerby Bridge. Stopped just below the lock for lunch.

From Callis Lock No 13 to Blackpit Lock No 9 arriving at 2:55 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 25 minutes. 1.5 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.88 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 241 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 352 locks, averaging 1.87 lock/miles per hour.

Our lunch was abruptly ended at 13.10 by the boat starting to lean. I went up to slacken off the ropes and push the boat out. While I was doing this a Shire Cruiser's boat came along from the lock below, which is why the pound had suddenly gone down. Wednesday 22nd May 1996

From Blackpit Lock No 9 to Sowerby Bridge Basin arriving at 1:10 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 25 minutes. 5.5 miles and 8 locks, averaging 3.95 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 244 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 360 locks, averaging 1.88 lock/miles per hour.

Came down the Rochdale through Tuel Lane lock and the last two locks on the canal, passing three boats coming in the opposite direction. Before we could moor in the basin we were asked to help fish out aa angler's box and umbrella that had blown into the basin. Went for lunch at the Navigation (Cumberland Sausage 1.85, Stilton and Asparagus Quiche 4.75), then picked up the post. Rosemary rang as we wee coming back to the boat. A wet day.

Thursday 23rd May 1996

From Sowerby Bridge Basin to Woodside Mills Lock No 23 arriving at 4:05 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 15 minutes. 2.87 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.05 lock/miles per hour. Went shopping at Kwik Save. Met the people on Shire Oak and one of their two cats, all very nice. Had a pump out (9) and diesel (23.76 for 26.4 gallons, 90p per gall) had lunch and filled up with water before setting off. Moored at Elland visitor moorings. A sunny start soon gave way to a cloudy day.

Friday 24th May 1996

From Woodside Mills Lock No 23 to Brighouse Basin Entrance arriving at 11:50 am. The time taken was 2 hours 15 minutes. 3.5 miles and 6 locks, averaging 4.22 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 249 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 370 locks, averaging 1.89 lock/miles per hour.

Started off at 9.00 and moored for water at Brighouse at 11.00 and went through the first lock at 11.35 to moor on the visitor's moorigs between the locks. After lunch we went shopping at Tesco's. Angela rang tosay she would be here this evening. A rainy start gave way to a day of sunshine and cloud, warmer than of late.

Saturday 25th May 1996

From Brighouse Basin Entrance to Forge Lane Bridge arriving at 1:20 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 25 minutes. 7 miles and 8 locks, averaging 4.39 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 252 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 378 locks, averaging 1.89 lock/miles per hour.

Went round Brighouse with Angela before setting off. Saw a kingfisher when leaving brighouse. Moored at the Perseverance for lunch. A day of cloud and sunny periods.

Sunday 26th May 1996

From Forge Lane Bridge to Waller Bridge arriving at 12:45 am. The time taken was 2 hours 15 minutes. 4.87 miles and 6 locks, averaging 4.83 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 254 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 384 locks, averaging 1.9 lock/miles per hour.

Angela helped with some of the locks on the way down and we stopped at the Navigation for lunch (Vegitarian Quiche 3.45, 2 Sausage Sandwiches 1.70 each).

Set off at 14.20 and went through the 2 locks with Yorkie. We both stopped for water at Wakefield Flood Lock (15.25) and we had to wait forYorkie before we could fill up. Set off for the visitor moorings at 16.10. A dull day with a few light rain showers.

Monday 27th May 1996

From Wakefield Flood Gates to Stanley Ferry Aqueduct arriving at 2:50 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 0 minutes. 3.12 miles and 1 locks, averaging 4.12 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 257 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 387 locks, averaging 1.89 lock/miles per hour.

Went round Wakefield with Angela and saw her onto the train after lunch. Broadreach Flood lock haad the gates closed and was on automatic operation. Stopped at Sanley Ferry but the chaldery there was closed.

From Stanley Ferry Aqueduct to King's Road Lock No 3 arriving at 4:45 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 10 minutes. 1.62 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.1 lock/miles per hour. Moored below the lock on the visitor moorings. A dull morning but a sunny late afternoon and evening.

Tuesday 28th May 1996

From King's Road Lock No 3 to Bank Dole Junction arriving at 11:55 am. The time taken was 2 hours 30 minutes. 10.25 miles and 4 locks, averaging 5.7 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 260 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 393 locks, averaging 1.89 lock/miles per hour.

Set off at 9.05 and stopped for water just above Woodnook Lock. Went through the lock with Victoria Plum and followed them to Bank Dole junction where we moored for lunch, they went on down the Selby Section.

From Bank Dole Junction to Selby Bridge arriving at 4:20 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 20 minutes. 11.25 miles and 3 locks, averaging 4.28 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 264 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 396 locks, averaging 1.88 lock/miles per hour.

Saw Victoria Plum at the Anchor Moorings and later at Selby. Moored between the bridge and the lock and went to Do It All to buy a new mixer tap/shower. Some early sun but a mostly cloudy day.

Wednesday 29th May 1996

From Selby Bridge to Naburn Locks arriving at 8:35 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 5 minutes. 14 miles and 2 locks, averaging 5.19 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 267 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 398 locks, averaging 1.86 lock/miles per hour.

Spent the morning fitting the new taps on the bath. At 5.30 we went into the lock and at 5.45 we were out on to the Ouse. A very pleasant run, with some evening sun, up to Naburn. We entered the lock at 8pm and were through by 8.35 (a very slow fill for some reason). Filled with water then moored at 21.05. A warm day, cloudy with sunny periods.

Thursday 30th May 1996

From Naburn Locks to Ouse Bridge, York arriving at 11:15 am. The time taken was 1 hour 50 minutes. 5.75 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3.14 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 269 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 398 locks, averaging 1.85 lock/miles per hour.

Went up to York but there were no mooring places above Lendal Bridge so we went back to Ouse Bridge and moored at Kings Staith. Made two trips to Sainsbury's and had lunch at the Black Bull in between. A rainy start to the day butt generally warm and sunny.

Moved up to a mooring above the bridge and just fitted in.
