Friday 1th August 2008

From to Harecastle Tunnel (north end) arriving at 10:00 am. The time taken was 1 hour 10 minutes. 2.75 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3.21 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 171 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 377 locks, averaging 2.78 lock/miles per hour.

Had a pumpout (15) at Heritage Narrowboats before setting off. Came down to Kidsgrove, from where I went into Birmingham by train to order some new spectacles. We went to the Red Bull for dinner. A mainly dry day with a few light showers.

Saturday 2th August 2008

From Harecastle Tunnel (north end) to Etruria Junction arriving at 1:35 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 10 minutes. 5.38 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.48 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 173 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 377 locks, averaging 2.75 lock/miles per hour.

We went shopping at Kidsgrove Tesco's before setting off for the tunnel. We did not have to wait long before we went in as the first boat came out of the tunnel as we arrived there. Had a good trip through the tunnel and moored just past Festival Park Marina. We walked back to the marina for lunch at the pub there, which is now called the Toby Carvery. A mostly sunny day.

Monday 4th August 2008

From Etruria Junction to Trentham Lock No 35 arriving at 12:40 am. The time taken was 2 hours 45 minutes. 4.75 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.55 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 176 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 382 locks, averaging 2.73 lock/miles per hour.

We spent yesterday at Stoke-on-Trent and went to the Festival marina for lunch again. This morning we spent 35 minutes filling with water before setting off down the Stoke locks. A lot of people were coming up but we saw no one else going down. At the bottom lock 10 boats were waiting to go up the flight. We came on through Trentham Lock and moored just after Oldroad bridge No. 104. We found that the Plume of Feathers at Barlaston was not serving food today so we bought some things in the Londis shop and walked back to the boat. Mostly dry but one or two heavy showers. Wednesday 6th August 2008

From Trentham Lock No 35 to Stone Bottom Lock No 27 arriving at 11:45 am. The time taken was 2 hours 35 minutes. 4.38 miles and 8 locks, averaging 4.79 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 179 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 390 locks, averaging 2.74 lock/miles per hour.

After spending a wet Tuesday at Oldroad Bridge today we came the locks to moor below Stone Bottom Lock. We had lunch at the Star and walked round the town doing a bit of shopping. A warm day with some sunshine.

Friday 8th August 2008

From Stone Bottom Lock No 27 to Weston upon Trent Bridge No 80 arriving at 12:10 am. The time taken was 2 hours 35 minutes. 6.38 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.63 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 181 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 393 locks, averaging 2.71 lock/miles per hour.

We spent Wednesday in Stone doing the weekly shop and polishing the boat. Had lunch at the Star again.

Today we came down to Salt Bridge No. 82. There was some queuing at the locks. We went to the Hollybush for lunch. A sunny morning but more cloudy this afternoon.

Saturday 9th August 2008

From Weston upon Trent Bridge No 80 to Cavan's Bridge No 108 arriving at 1:15 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 20 minutes. 3.5 miles and 2 locks, averaging 2.36 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 184 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 395 locks, averaging 2.69 lock/miles per hour.

A wet trip this morning down to Great Haywood Marina, where we stopped for 50 minutes to get a pumpout (12.50) and to fill with water. We then went on to Tixall Wide where we moored. Had lunch on the boat. A cloudy day with rain but dry by late afternoon.

Sunday 10th August 2008

From Cavan's Bridge No 108 to Radford Bridge No 98 arriving at 11:05 am. The time taken was 1 hour 40 minutes. 4.5 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3.3 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 185 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 396 locks, averaging 2.67 lock/miles per hour.

Set off from Tixall Wide just as another boat came along so we folled it up to the lock. Stopped just before Radford Bridge and went to the Radford Bank Inn for lunch. A cloudy morning but more sun in the afternoon.

From Radford Bridge No 98 to Penkridge Lock No 38 arriving at 1:00 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 45 minutes. 5.13 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.68 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 188 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 401 locks, averaging 2.66 lock/miles per hour.

After spending Monday at Radford Bridge, and lunching at the pub again, we came down to Penkridge. After coming up through the lock we found there was a queue for water so it took us an hour and five minutes before we had filled with water. We then moored just past the winding hole and went to the Star for lunch and to the Co-op for some shopping. Some heavy showers and sunny periods.

Thursday 14th August 2008

From Penkridge Lock No 38 to Gailey Lock No 32 arriving at 12:30 am. The time taken was 2 hours 20 minutes. 2.75 miles and 6 locks, averaging 3.75 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 190 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 407 locks, averaging 2.66 lock/miles per hour.

We did our shopping at the Co-op in Penkridge yesterday and had lunch at the Star again.

Today we came down to Gailey, where we stopped above the lock for 20 minutes to fill with water before going onto the visitor moorings. Had lunch on the boat. A day of sunshine and a few short showers.

Friday 15th August 2008

From Gailey Lock No 32 to Cross Green Bridge No 71 arriving at 10:40 am. The time taken was 1 hour 40 minutes. 5 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 192 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 407 locks, averaging 2.63 lock/miles per hour.

Came down to moor before the pub and bridge. We went to the Fox & Achor for lunch, a pub much improved since it was the old Anchor. A dry and mostly sunny day.

Sunday 17th August 2008

From Cross Green Bridge No 71 to Wheaton Aston Lock No 2 arriving at 12:30 am. The time taken was 4 hours 10 minutes. 10.5 miles and 1 locks, averaging 2.76 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 196 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 408 locks, averaging 2.58 lock/miles per hour.

We spent yesterday at Cross Green and went into Coven for some shopping. Had lunch at the Fox & Anchor again.

Today we came down to Autherley and up the Shropshire Union to Wheaton Aston. Had lunch at the Hartley Arms. A dry day with sunny periods.

Monday 18th August 2008

From Wheaton Aston Lock No 2 to Brewood Bridge No 14 arriving at 12:00 am. The time taken was 1 hour 25 minutes. 2.6 miles and 1 locks, averaging 2.54 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 198 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 409 locks, averaging 2.57 lock/miles per hour.

Before setting off from Wheaton Aston we reversed to the winding hole and turned before filling with water, this whole process taking 40 minutes. We had hoped to also have a pumpout but the machine was out of order, so we stopped for 35 minutes at Countrywide Criusers at Brewood for the pumpout (12) then went on to moor before the bridge. Had lunch at the Admiral Rodney. A day of sunshine and showers.

We did our shopping and had lunch at the Admiral Rodney before setting off. Came down to Aldersley Junction to turn before going on to our festival moorings. A day of cloud, sunshine and showers.

From Aldersley Junction to Brewood Bridge No 14 arriving at 11:45 am. The time taken was 2 hours 0 minutes. 5.5 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3.25 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 202 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 411 locks, averaging 2.52 lock/miles per hour.

After spending almost a week on our Festival moorings we had a pumpout (12.50) and filled with diesel (100 litres @ 78p = 78) at Oxley Services before going through the stop lock, filling with water, and coming up to Brewood, where we turned at the wharf before mooring. Had lunch at the Admiral Rodney.

Thursday 28th August 2008

From Brewood Bridge No 14 to Cross Green Bridge No 71 arriving at 12:55 am. The time taken was 2 hours 50 minutes. 7.75 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3.09 lock/miles per hour. Stopped 25 minutes for water just before Autherley Junction then came up to Coven to moor just past the Fox & Anchor, where we had lunch. A dry and mostly cloudy day.

Stopped for 15 minutes at Gailey to fill with water before coming down to Penkridge to moor before the lock. Had lunch at The Boat and did some shopping at the Co-op. A warm day with sunny periods.

From Filance Lock No 37 to Radford Bridge No 98 arriving at 1:20 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 50 minutes. 5.38 miles and 5 locks, averaging 2.71 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 213 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 423 locks, averaging 2.46 lock/miles per hour.

We had to wait at every lock as boats went down in front of us. There was also light rain for some of the journey. We moored just past the bridge and went to the Radford Bank for lunch, the pub was very busy too and a lot of boats are moored here. A cloudy and showery day.
