Wednesday 2th August 2006

From to Orchard Mill Bridge No 102 arriving at 12:50 am. The time taken was 2 hours 0 minutes. 6.87 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3.94 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 39 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 90 miles and 63 locks, averaging 3.83 lock/miles per hour.

Went into Milton Keynes yesterday and again today (to change some clothes in M&S). Stopped for lunch just before the bridge.

Came through the locks with the narrowboat Lord Toulouse and moored just past bridge 111. Went to the Globe for dinner. A mostly cloudy day with sunny periods and some rain this evening.

From Old Linslade Bridge No 110 to Leighton Buzzard Bridge No 114 arriving at 1:40 pm. The time taken was 55 minutes. 2 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3.27 lock/miles per hour. Shared Leighton Lock with the narrowboat Bullbell on its way to the National Festival at Beale Park. Stopped for an hour and 20 minutes to do shopping at Tesco then moved down past the bridge to fill with water for 25 minutes before going on further to moor for lunch.

From Leighton Buzzard Bridge No 114 to Horton Lock No 31 arriving at 4:55 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 0 minutes. 4.25 miles and 4 locks, averaging 4.13 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 45 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 99.75 miles and 72 locks, averaging 3.82 lock/miles per hour.

Shared locks with the nb. Greenham Lock and moored just above the lock. A cloudy and breezy moerning but sunny this afternoon.

From Horton Lock No 31 to Marsworth Junction arriving at 1:05 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 35 minutes. 3.87 miles and 7 locks, averaging 4.21 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 47 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 79 locks, averaging 3.76 lock/miles per hour.

Spent 15 minutes struggling to get off our mooring as the pound above Horton Lock had gone down by a foot overnight. Came up all the locks before Marsworth with the narrowboat Awe from Tardibigge. Stopped between Marsworth Lock 38 and the junction and went to the Anglers Retreat for lunch (Chicken & Leek Pie 6.95 each - very good). Met Joyce Moseley with her grand-daughter. Went for a walk by the reserviors.

Saturday 5th August 2006

From Marsworth Junction to New Ground Bridge No 136 arriving at 1:15 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 25 minutes. 3.37 miles and 7 locks, averaging 3.04 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 51 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 86 locks, averaging 3.65 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped for 10 minutes to fill with water at Marsworth Junction. Went up the locks with the narrowboat Saul and moored just before Cowroast Marina. We had lunch on the boat and in the evening went to the Cowroast pub for a very good Thai meal. A warm sunny day.

Sunday 6th August 2006

From New Ground Bridge No 136 to Northchurch Bottom Lock No 52 arriving at 12:55 am. The time taken was 2 hours 15 minutes. 2.75 miles and 7 locks, averaging 4.33 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 53 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 93 locks, averaging 3.62 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped 15 minutes for a pumpout at Cowroast Marina (13). Came down the locks with a 54 foot narrowboat Amy Lilian Stopped near Waitrose and went to the Cafe Rouge for lunch then to Waitrose for a few items. A warm day cloudy in the afternoon.

Monday 7th August 2006

From Northchurch Bottom Lock No 52 to Winkwell Top Lock No 60 arriving at 12:35 am. The time taken was 2 hours 30 minutes. 2.87 miles and 8 locks, averaging 4.35 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 55 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 101 locks, averaging 3.61 lock/miles per hour.

A cloudy morning with some drizzle as we came down the locks. Moored before the swing bridge and went to the Three Horseshoes for lunch (Trout 11 each and desserts - excellent). More sunshine and dry this afternoon.

From Winkwell Top Lock No 60 to Aspley Top Lock No 65 arriving at 12:05 am. The time taken was 1 hour 50 minutes. 2.37 miles and 5 locks, averaging 4.02 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 57 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 106 locks, averaging 3.58 lock/miles per hour.

Shared the locks with a small narrowboat form the Paddington Branch. Stopped for 25 minues for water and shopping above lock 66 then moved back from the water point to moor.Went to Sainsbury's for lunch. A dry sunny day.

From Aspley Top Lock No 65 to Cassiobury Park Lock No 76 arriving at 1:35 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 30 minutes. 5.5 miles and 12 locks, averaging 5 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 61 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 118 locks, averaging 3.57 lock/miles per hour.

Came down all the locks by ourselves today. Moored just after the lock and walked into Watford through the Park. Went to Zinco again for lunch and went round the shops. Got a taxi back most of the way. Another dry sunny day.

Thursday 10th August 2006

From Cassiobury Park Lock No 76 to Batchworth Junction arriving at 12:40 am. The time taken was 2 hours 20 minutes. 3.5 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.64 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 63 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 123 locks, averaging 3.52 lock/miles per hour.

Came through all but the last lock by ourselves. Stopped for 15 minutes above Cassiobridge Lock for water. Moored at Tesco's and went to the White Bear for Lunch (Sausage & Mash and Homemade Lasagne - quiet good) then bought a few things in Tesco before moving across the canal to Moor. Walked up to the town in the afternoon. A cooler day with sunshine and cloud and a few spots of rain.

Saturday 12th August 2006

From Batchworth Junction to Bridge No 185, Uxbridge arriving at 6:35 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 35 minutes. 6.87 miles and 7 locks, averaging 3.87 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 67 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 130 locks, averaging 3.43 lock/miles per hour.

Met Rosemary and Ben at Rickmansworth station and took them back to the boat. Set off at 3pm and moored just past the bridge. Went to the Swan & Bottle for dinner. A mostly cloudy day.

Sunday 13th August 2006

From Bridge No 185, Uxbridge to Norwood Lock No 91 arriving at 12:40 am. The time taken was 3 hours 0 minutes. 8 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.67 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 70 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 133 locks, averaging 3.33 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped for 25 minutes for water at Cowley Lock then 20 minutes for a pumpout (10) at the Packet Boat Marina. Came through the two Norwood Locks before stopping for lunch.

From Norwood Lock No 91 to Brentford Gauging Lock No 100 arriving at 3:40 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 5 minutes. 3.12 miles and 9 locks, averaging 5.82 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 72 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 142 locks, averaging 3.36 lock/miles per hour.

Made good progress down the Hanwell flight and through the other locks. Waited for the 16.30 tide with one other narrowboat.

From Brentford Gauging Lock No 100 to Teddington Lock arriving at 5:50 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 10 minutes. 5.75 miles and 2 locks, averaging 6.64 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 73 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 144 locks, averaging 3.33 lock/miles per hour.

Had a good trip up the tidal Thames catching up with some narrowboats that had started from Limehouse. Saw lots of parakeets on the way. Came through the barge lock. Moored above the lock and went to an excellent Italian restaurant for dinner. A showery morning but drier in the afternoon with some sunshine.

From Teddington Lock to Hampton Court Bridge arriving at 10:25 am. The time taken was 1 hour 5 minutes. 4.62 miles and 1 locks, averaging 5.19 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 74 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 145 locks, averaging 3.3 lock/miles per hour.

Saw some more parakeets on our way up the river. Moored at hampton Court and went round the palace with Rose and Ben while Beryl stayed on the boat.Went to dinner at Blubeckers - very nice. A dull and showery morning but dry in the afternoon.

From Hampton Court Bridge to Walton Bridge arriving at 12:40 am. The time taken was 2 hours 50 minutes. 4.75 miles and 2 locks, averaging 2.38 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 77 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 147 locks, averaging 3.2 lock/miles per hour.

Came through Molesey Lock then stopped for 30 minutes to fill with water. While we were there Ray and his wife from Handsel came along. They now have a new boat called Jade. Went round the loop above Walton but all the moorings on the green were full so we went on and moored on the barge dolphins just before the junction while we had lunch.

From Walton Bridge to Staines Railway Bridge arriving at 3:55 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 35 minutes. 6.87 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.82 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 79 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 150 locks, averaging 3.13 lock/miles per hour.

Moored at our usual place by the Swan. Went to the Saffron indian restaurant for dinner, which is part of the Anne Boleyn Hotel behind the Swan. A mostly sunny day.

Thursday 17th August 2006

From Staines Railway Bridge to Windsor Railway Viaduct arriving at 3:20 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 20 minutes. 8.12 miles and 3 locks, averaging 4.77 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 82 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 153 locks, averaging 3.08 lock/miles per hour.

Set off at 11.10 and dumped our rubbish at Bell Weir Lock. Stopped at Kris Cruisers for 50 minutesand had our lunch while we waited for the staff to come back from their lunch and give us a pumpout (13). Moored on the Eaton side of the river just before the bridge. Had a walk round the town and went to dinner at an Italian restauarnt in Thames Street called Tre. Some showers this morning but a sunny afternoon.

Friday 18th August 2006

From Windsor Railway Viaduct to Maidenhead Bridge arriving at 1:20 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 20 minutes. 6.12 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.48 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 84 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 155 locks, averaging 3.02 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped for 40 minutes below Boveney Lock while we waited for our turn and filled with water. Moored by the wall before Boulter'sLock and walked up into the town for lunch. A showery day with sunny intervals.Maidenhead Bridge:  - 20th August 2006.

From Maidenhead Bridge to Bourne End Railway Bridge arriving at 4:00 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 35 minutes. 4.25 miles and 2 locks, averaging 2.42 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 87 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 157 locks, averaging 2.95 lock/miles per hour.

Had quite a wait before we could go through Boulter's Lock which was packed with boats when we did go in. Moored just before the bridge and walked across into Bourne End village. Had dinner on the boat. Another day of sunshine and showers.

Sunday 20th August 2006

From Bourne End Railway Bridge to Henley Bridge arriving at 1:00 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 40 minutes. 11 miles and 4 locks, averaging 4.09 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 90 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 161 locks, averaging 2.88 lock/miles per hour.

Saw a kingfisher a little way before Marlow. I dropped the back rope in the water in Marlow Lock and got it wrapped round the prop. Had to pull the boat out of the lock and free the rope from the weed hatch. The rope was severed by the prop but was tangledso was easy to free. Moored 30 minutes for water above Hurley Lock. Came through all the locks today with the narrowboat Patience. Moored a little way before Henley Bridge (10 for two days) and went to the Red Lion for Sunday Lunch. After lunch we walked round the town. When I got back to the boat I spliced the broken rope. A showery mornig but dry and mostly cloudy this afternoon.

From Henley Bridge to Sonning Bridge arriving at 12:05 am. The time taken was 1 hour 55 minutes. 6.12 miles and 2 locks, averaging 4.24 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 92 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 163 locks, averaging 2.84 lock/miles per hour.

Marsh Lock was well packed with boat this morning. We stopped for 10 minutes above Shiplake Lock to fill with water. Moored just before the bridge on the Oxfordshire bank and went to the Bull Hotel for lunch. After lunch we looked round the church and walked up to the lock. A sunny morning but a mostly cloudy afternoon.

From Sonning Bridge to High Bridge, Reading arriving at 1:25 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 30 minutes. 2.75 miles and 2 locks, averaging 1.9 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 95 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 165 locks, averaging 2.79 lock/miles per hour.

Had to wait for the second filling of the lock at Sonning. Moored beside Manatee at Tesco's and did our shopping. Moved up to moor outside Bel and the Dragon beside the weir at Blakes Lock. Muffin No 3 was also moored there. Had lunch in the pub. A mostly cloudy day with some rain in the afternoon.

Thursday 24th August 2006

From High Bridge, Reading to Gatehampton Railway Bridge arriving at 3:20 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 35 minutes. 10.62 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.19 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 99 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 169 locks, averaging 2.7 lock/miles per hour.

Came through Blakes Lock with two other narrowboats. Stopped 30 minutes at Better Boating for diesel (100.85 litres @ 58p = 58.50) and pumpout (13). Long waits at all the Thames locks. Arrive at the National Festival at Beale Park and moored next to API Wanderer. A mostly sunny day.

From Gatehampton Railway Bridge to Wallingford Bridge arriving at 2:10 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 30 minutes. 7.25 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.7 lock/miles per hour. Left the IWA National Festival site with Credalwood andshared the locks with them. Stopped 20 minutes for water above Cleeve Lock. Moored in the trees above the bridge and went into town for lunch at Pizza Express and bought a couple of items at Waitrose. Sunshine and cloud today with a shower this afternoon.

From Wallingford Bridge to Clifton Hampden Bridge arriving at 2:50 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 20 minutes. 7.62 miles and 2 locks, averaging 2.89 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 105 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 173 locks, averaging 2.59 lock/miles per hour.

Did our shopping at Waitrose before setting off. There were queues for both locks which we shared with Wasp, a 62 foot narrowboat skippered by a lone lady. Moored just above the bridge. A dry day of sunshine and cloud.

From Clifton Hampden Bridge to Folly Bridge arriving at 3:25 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 30 minutes. 13.62 miles and 5 locks, averaging 4.14 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 110 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 178 locks, averaging 2.53 lock/miles per hour.

Saw Jade moored at Abingdon. Stopped above Abingdon Lock for pump out (6) and water. Saul and Josephine came along while we were there.Had lunch on the move and moored before Folly Bridge. Utopian was moored near by. Had dinner in town ay the Qudo Brasserie at the Old Bank Hotel. A dry and mostly cloudy day.
