From to Market Drayton Bridge No 62 arriving at 2:25 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 0 minutes. 6.5 miles and 20 locks, averaging 5.3 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 169 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 210 locks, averaging 1.83 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped 25 minutes for water below the lock before the Shroppie Fly. A wet trip up to Market Drayton where we had to go on past the aqueduct to find a mooring. Moored next to Muffin No 3 and had a late lunch.

Friday 3th June 2005

From Market Drayton Bridge No 62 to Shebdon Aqueduct arriving at 12:55 am. The time taken was 3 hours 30 minutes. 7.62 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.61 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 172 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 215 locks, averaging 1.83 lock/miles per hour.

Moored just before Anchor Bridge No 42 and went to the pub hoping to get a meal but were disapointed so we ate on the boat.

From Shebdon Aqueduct to Gnosall Bridge No 35 arriving at 4:10 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 40 minutes. 6 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3.6 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 174 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 215 locks, averaging 1.81 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped just before the bridge for 25 minutes while we filled with water then went on through the bridge to moor. We went to the Navigation for Dinner. A cloudy day with showers and some sunshine.

Saturday 4th June 2005

From Gnosall Bridge No 35 to Chillington Bridge No 9 arriving at 12:50 am. The time taken was 3 hours 30 minutes. 9.37 miles and 1 locks, averaging 2.96 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 177 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 216 locks, averaging 1.78 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped at Weaton Aston for 20 minutes whle we waited for a mooring at the garage then filled with diesel (49.60 for 146.3 litres @ 33.9p) we then came on through Brewood and stopped just past Park Bridge No 8. Another day of sunshine and cloud but more windy than of late.

Sunday 5th June 2005

From Chillington Bridge No 9 to Wightwick Lock No 29 arriving at 12:45 am. The time taken was 3 hours 0 minutes. 6.75 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.58 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 180 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 220 locks, averaging 1.77 lock/miles per hour.

Came down the last section of the Shropshire Union and turned south at Autherley Junction. Followed a trip boat down the first two locks and moored past Wrightwick Bridge and wet to the Mermaid Inn for lunch (Roast Beef 5.95 and Vanilla Cheesecake 3.75 each).

From Wightwick Lock No 29 to Wombourn Bridge No 43 arriving at 4:40 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 25 minutes. 4.87 miles and 7 locks, averaging 3.47 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 184 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 227 locks, averaging 1.78 lock/miles per hour.

Very few boats around today. When we arrived at Bratch we were able to go straight down the flight. Moored before Houndel Bridge and walked up to the village to the shops. A mainly dry and mostly cloudy day.

Monday 6th June 2005

From Wombourn Bridge No 43 to Dunsley Tunnel No 31 arriving at 1:35 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 55 minutes. 6 miles and 9 locks, averaging 3.83 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 188 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 236 locks, averaging 1.79 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped 15 minutes for water before Stewponey Lock then came on through the lock to moor just past the tunnel.

From Dunsley Tunnel No 31 to Cookley Tunnel arriving at 4:15 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 55 minutes. 4.12 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.71 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 190 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 239 locks, averaging 1.78 lock/miles per hour.

After lunch we continued on to moor just before Debdale Lock. A pair of Great Tits have their nest in the towpath hedge where we are moored and are busy making trips backwards and forwards with grubs to feed their young. A dry and mostly cloudy day.

Tuesday 7th June 2005

From Cookley Tunnel to Caldwall Hall Bridge No 15 arriving at 11:15 am. The time taken was 2 hours 10 minutes. 3.5 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.46 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 192 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 243 locks, averaging 1.78 lock/miles per hour.

More boats on the move today. Moored outside Tesco's and went shopping in the town before lunch and at Tesco's after lunch.

From Caldwall Hall Bridge No 15 to Oldington Bridge No 10 arriving at 4:25 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 5 minutes. 2 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.69 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 193 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 245 locks, averaging 1.79 lock/miles per hour.

Saw a steam train on the Severn Valley Railway crossing the viaduct across the canal. Moored between bridges 10 and 9. Did the 8845 hours service (changed oil filter). A sunny day.

Wednesday 8th June 2005

From Oldington Bridge No 10 to Stourport Junction arriving at 11:40 am. The time taken was 1 hour 45 minutes. 2 miles and 5 locks, averaging 4 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 195 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 250 locks, averaging 1.79 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped about 40 minutes below York Street Lock for water and Pumpout (6.30) before coming down the narrow locks to moor on the river. Went to the Angela for lunch (Lasagne 4.75 each).

From Stourport Junction to Worcester Quay arriving at 4:05 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 35 minutes. 12.37 miles and 3 locks, averaging 5.95 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 197 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 253 locks, averaging 1.79 lock/miles per hour.

A good trip down the river with all the locks ready for us. Moored by the footbridge near the rowing club.A warm sunny day.

Thursday 9th June 2005

From Worcester Quay to Upton-on-Severn Bridge arriving at 3:45 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 20 minutes. 10.5 miles and 1 locks, averaging 4.93 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 199 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 254 locks, averaging 1.77 lock/miles per hour.

Spent the morning shopping in Worcester. After lunch we came down the river and managed to squeeze into a mooring at the back of one of the pontoons above the bridge. Walked round the town and did even more shopping. A mostly cloudy but warm day.

Friday 10th June 2005

Moved down to the marina to do an interview for an article. While I was there Ian Cundy of Starline Marine came and check our engine water leak and tighten some of the hose joints. We stayed in the marina overnight. A cloudy morning with sun in the afternoon.

Saturday 11th June 2005

From Upton-on-Severn Bridge to Gloucester Docks arriving at 1:15 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 20 minutes. 19.12 miles and 1 locks, averaging 4.64 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 204 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 255 locks, averaging 1.74 lock/miles per hour.

It took us 3 hours 40 minutes to get down from Upton and into Gloucester Lock and another 40 minutes to lock through and moor in the dock. We shared the lock with two large cruisers and the lock was filled very slowly. Had lunch at the Tall Ship and then went shopping in the city centre. A mostly sunny morning but more cloudy in the afternoon.

Sunday 12th June 2005

From Gloucester Docks to Patch bridge arriving at 5:00 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 5 minutes. 11.75 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3.81 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 207 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 255 locks, averaging 1.71 lock/miles per hour.

Went round the Docks and the city centre this morning then had lunch at the New County Hotel (7.95 for two courses). Llanthony Lift Bridge was on restricted opening times so we went through at the 14.00 opening. Saw Nosidoog moored as we came down the canal. We stopped some way beyond Patch Bridge. A mostly cloudy day with some sun at tne begining and end of the day.

Monday 13th June 2005

From Patch bridge to Junction with Old Line arriving at 83:5 pm. The time taken was 55 minutes. 3.5 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3.82 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 208 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 255 locks, averaging 1.7 lock/miles per hour.

Came down to the junction and filled with water. Saw Mecca who we had seen on the Montgomery Canal.Got some diesel from Stokie (54.3 litres @ 39p = 20.17).

From Junction with Old Line to Patch bridge arriving at 11:50 am. The time taken was 1 hour 0 minutes. 3.5 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3.5 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 209 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 255 locks, averaging 1.69 lock/miles per hour.

Came back upthe canal and stopped on the visitor moorings just before the bridge. Went to the Tudor Inn for lunch (Plaice & Chips 6.50, Beef & Mushroom Pie 7.95). A day of sunshine and cloud.

Tuesday 14th June 2005

From Patch bridge to Gloucester Docks arriving at 1:45 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 15 minutes. 11.75 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3.62 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 212 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 255 locks, averaging 1.67 lock/miles per hour.

Set off at 9.25 and stopped breifly after Patch Bridge to get a pumpout but their machine was not working so we came on to the BW facilities before Llanthony Bridge for water and pumpout (6.30). We stopped there for an hour and 5minutes for facilities and to wait for the 13.30 bridge openning. Went into town for more shopping. A mostly cloudy day with some sunshine and a stiff breeze.

Thursday 16th June 2005

From Gloucester Docks to River Avon Junction arriving at 4:00 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 30 minutes. 13.12 miles and 1 locks, averaging 4.03 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 216 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 256 locks, averaging 1.65 lock/miles per hour.

After spending two nights at Gloucester Docks we set off back up the Severn. In the meantime we had done a lot of shopping and discovered that we could not replace the back alternator belt without removing the pully for the 240 volt alternator. Not a satisfactory procedure everytime a belt needs changing. This morning an engieer came and ground away part of the bracket that obstructed the belt change. After an early lunch we went through Gloucester Lock and up the river. Saw a kingfisher above Ashlesworth. Turned at the junction onto the Avon.

From River Avon Junction to Twyning Fleet (Inn) arriving at 4:55 pm. The time taken was 55 minutes. 2.75 miles and 1 locks, averaging 4.09 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 217 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 257 locks, averaging 1.64 lock/miles per hour.

Came through both Tewkesbury locks with the narrowboat Rumboogie. Paid 44 for the Lower and Upper Avon licences at the lock. Moored at the Fleet Inn where wehad dinner. A mostly Cloudy day.

Friday 17th June 2005

From Twyning Fleet (Inn) to Pershore Lock arriving at 12:55 am. The time taken was 3 hours 30 minutes. 12 miles and 3 locks, averaging 4.29 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 220 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 260 locks, averaging 1.63 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped 25 minutes for water at Strensham Lock. Saw a Curlew just after Bredon. LANT volunteers helped us through Pershore Lock and we moored by the recreation ground. A warm day with some sun but mostly cloudy.

Saturday 18th June 2005

From Pershore Lock to Workman Bridge, Evesham arriving at 6:00 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 30 minutes. 9.75 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.64 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 224 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 263 locks, averaging 1.62 lock/miles per hour.

Rosemary and Ben came to see us and we had lunch at the Angel Inn. We were helped through the locks this afternoon by LANT volunteers. Saw about six llamas near Cropthorne. Could not stop at Craycombe moorings as they were full so we came on to moor at Evesham. A hot day.

Stopped 25 minutes for water just before Workman Bridge. Met Peter and Judy on Merlin at George Billington Lock. Moored for lunch at Bidford.

Saw a kingfisher below Pilgrim Lock. Passed Richard on Valhalla (who we came up the Hatton flight with last year). Moored above the lock. A hot sunny day.

From W A Cadbury Lock to Stratford Bridge arriving at 11:25 am. The time taken was 2 hours 25 minutes. 6.25 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.83 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 231 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 272 locks, averaging 1.61 lock/miles per hour.

Shared the last two locks with a Stratford Court hire boat. Met Mountbatten and Jelicoe on the river and narrowboat Ramyshome coming down through the last lock. Went to lunch at Lambs in Sheep Street (15 each for two courses) then Beryl went off to do some more shopping. Sunny in the morning but mostly cloudy after lunch.Luddington Lock:  - 21st June 2005.

From Wootton Wawen Aqueduct to Lowsonford Lock No 31 arriving at 5:00 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 45 minutes. 4 miles and 8 locks, averaging 4.36 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 239 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 298 locks, averaging 1.66 lock/miles per hour.

A wet morning so we did not set off until after lunch. Stopped 15 minutes for water below the lock and then came up to moor above it. We hoped to get dinner at the Fluer-de-Lys but found all the tables booked so came back to have a mushroom omelette on the boat. A cloudy afternoon with a cou[le of showers.

Saturday 25th June 2005

From Lowsonford Lock No 31 to Lapworth Junction arriving at 3:15 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 10 minutes. 2 miles and 9 locks, averaging 5.08 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 241 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 307 locks, averaging 1.68 lock/miles per hour.

Spent a showery morning at Lowsonford and set off after lunch. Moored on the Kingswood Branch. A dry but cloudy afternoon. Went to the Boot for dinner, where we had three courses and coffee, an excellent meal.

From Lapworth Junction to Hatton Top Lock No 46 arriving at 10:55 am. The time taken was 1 hour 45 minutes. 5.25 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 243 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 307 locks, averaging 1.67 lock/miles per hour.

Shrewley Tunnel was as wet as usual. As we moored before the locks Mr David came by. We went to the Waterman for lunch, which was very good. When we came back we found the the Clifton Crusers "Dover" was moored next to us for the fourth night in succession. A mostly sunny day.

Monday 27th June 2005

From Hatton Top Lock No 46 to Cape Top Lock No 25 arriving at 12:00 am. The time taken was 2 hours 50 minutes. 2.75 miles and 21 locks, averaging 8.38 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 246 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 328 locks, averaging 1.74 lock/miles per hour.

Came down the locks with Dover. Stopped 15 minutes for a drink on the way down. We moored just before the lock. In the afternoon I walked up Hatton Locks and took some photos of President and Kildare. A warm sunny day.

From Cape Top Lock No 25 to Emscote Bridge No 46 arriving at 10:25 am. The time taken was 1 hour 0 minutes. 1.25 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.25 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 247 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 330 locks, averaging 1.74 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped 25 minutes for water above the Cape Locks then stopped 10 minutes at Kate Boats for gas (15.95). Moored by Tesco to do our shopping and then went back to Tesco for lunch.

From Emscote Bridge No 46 to Clemens Street Bridge No 40 arriving at 1:30 pm. The time taken was 40 minutes. 1.75 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.63 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 248 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 330 locks, averaging 1.73 lock/miles per hour.

Moored just past the bridge to go into town for a few items.

From Clemens Street Bridge No 40 to Radford Road Bridge No 35 arriving at 3:20 pm. The time taken was 35 minutes. 1.25 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.14 lock/miles per hour. Moored between the bridge and the lock, opposite Radford Semele church. A fine sunny day clouding over this evening.

Wednesday 29th June 2005

From Radford Road Bridge No 35 to Stockton Bottom Lock No 12 arriving at 12:55 am. The time taken was 3 hours 45 minutes. 5.62 miles and 12 locks, averaging 4.7 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 252 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 342 locks, averaging 1.75 lock/miles per hour.

Shared some locks with Desertlyn and some the a Chanlenger boat called Vallient. Did four locks by ourselves. Moored at the Blue Lias and had a good lunch in the pub. A mostly cloudy morning but warm. In the afternoon we had some rain and thunder and some sunshine.

Thursday 30th June 2005

From Stockton Bottom Lock No 12 to Calcutt Top Lock No 1 arriving at 11:40 am. The time taken was 2 hours 20 minutes. 3.25 miles and 11 locks, averaging 6.11 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 254 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 353 locks, averaging 1.78 lock/miles per hour.

Filled with water for 20 minutes before setting off up the locks. Came up through the locks with Weaver Valley (Valley Cruises hire boat) and stopped at the Calcutt Marina shops before having lunch. Used the bike to work the Stockton Locks.

Made good progress up the locks, I used the bike again and there were some boats coming down. Moored a little way on from the top lock. A cloudy morning with some sun in the afternoon.
