From to A60 Road Bridge, Loughborough arriving at 12:15 am. The time taken was 3 hours 20 minutes. 7.25 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.68 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 412 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 704 locks, averaging 1.95 lock/miles per hour.

Shared two locks with a Canal Time boat. Moored by the Boat pub and walked into town. Had lunch at the Gallery and went shopping at Sainsbury's.

Moved down to just before bridge 34. A warm sunny day.

Stopped for 20 minutes at Barrow on Soar to fill with water and for 10 minutes at Silbey Mill for a pumpout (12). Had lunch on the move and moored on the pontoon above West Bridge alongside May Bee, as there were no spare mooring places. Went into town for some shopping and found plenty of space when we came back. A sunny day, warm in the afternoon.

Friday 3th September 2004

From West Bridge, Leicester to Newton Church Bridge No 80 arriving at 6:40 pm. The time taken was 7 hours 50 minutes. 10.5 miles and 19 locks, averaging 3.77 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 426 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 734 locks, averaging 1.95 lock/miles per hour.

Before setting off we went into Leicester to collect Beryl's watch (which had a new battery fitted) and do a bit more shopping. Had lunch on the move and moored just after High Bridge, No 79. A warm and mostly sunny day.

Saturday 4th September 2004

From Newton Church Bridge No 80 to Foxton Junction arriving at 12:30 am. The time taken was 3 hours 25 minutes. 7.5 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.66 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 430 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 739 locks, averaging 1.95 lock/miles per hour.

Came up the last five wide locks and cruised on to the moorings just before the junction, where we stopped for lunch.

From Foxton Junction to Husband Bosworth Tunnel (North-east End) arriving at 4:50 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 10 minutes. 5.37 miles and 10 locks, averaging 4.85 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 433 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 749 locks, averaging 1.96 lock/miles per hour.

Had to wait for about 45 minutes before we could start up the Foxton flight. Stopped 20 minutes for water at the top. Moored just before Honey Pot Farm Bridge, No 46, and went to the Bell for dinner (Roast Beef 5.95 each, Toffee Sundaes 2.95). A warm sunny day.

From Husband Bosworth Tunnel (North-east End) to Watford Locks Nos 3 to 7 arriving at 2:05 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 10 minutes. 15.37 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.97 lock/miles per hour. A sunny trip along the summit level. Moored a little way before the locks for lunch.

From Watford Locks Nos 3 to 7 to Braunston Tunnel, West End arriving at 11:50 am. The time taken was 2 hours 45 minutes. 5.25 miles and 7 locks, averaging 4.45 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 441 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 756 locks, averaging 1.94 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped 15 minutes for water at the bottom of Watford Locks and 15 minutes at Weltonfield Marina. Saw Handsel just before we came through Braunston Tunnel. Moored before the Top Lock and went to the Admiral Nelson for lunch. A day of sunshine and cloud.

Tuesday 7th September 2004

From Braunston Tunnel, West End to Braunston Bottom Lock No 1 arriving at 3:05 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 15 minutes. 0.87 miles and 6 locks, averaging 5.5 lock/miles per hour. Had a walk round the village and marina before having lunch at the Old Plough. Saw Fred and Joyce on Wigrams Turn. Came down the locks with another boat. Moored at Braunston Boats. A mostly sunny day.

Thursday 9th September 2004

From Braunston Bottom Lock No 1 to Hillmorton Bottom Locks Nos 2 and 3 arriving at 1:00 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 5 minutes. 8.25 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.65 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 445 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 765 locks, averaging 1.94 lock/miles per hour.

We spent yesterday getting a new stern tube and prop shaft fitted (354.28) and in the evening had dinner with Fred and Joyce at the Admiral Nelson. This morning we called into the Marina for pumpout (7.50) and diesel (38.25 for 98 litres at 39p a litre) then we filled with water by the Stop House. It seems there has been a breach in canal at Thrupp so instead of going down the Oxford Canal to the Thames, as we had planned, we headed towards the Ashby Canal.

From Hillmorton Bottom Locks Nos 2 and 3 to Newbold Tunnel (South-east end) arriving at 5:50 pm. The time taken was 55 minutes. 3.75 miles and 0 locks, averaging 4.09 lock/miles per hour. After lunch we went down to Brownsover Bridge to moor for Tesco's. We then discovered a problem with the bilge pump. After shopping I tried to sort out why the bige pump was not working but without success. We came on to moor at Newbold and went to the Barley Mow for dinner. A warm sunny day.

Friday 10th September 2004

From Newbold Tunnel (South-east end) to Stretton Arm arriving at 10:50 am. The time taken was 1 hour 45 minutes. 4.25 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.43 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 448 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 765 locks, averaging 1.93 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped at Yates' boatyard about the bilge pump but thet were too busy so we came on to Rose Narrowboats who said they could do it this afternoon. After lunch they came and installed a new pump and float (75). A mainly dull showery day.

Stopped 25 minutes for water just past Hawesbury Junction. Followed a Rose boat up onto the Ashby. Moored before Bulking Road Bridge No 5 for Lunch.

Moored on the bend before Wooden Top Bridge, No 21. After a cloudy start we had increasingly long sunny intervals throughout the day and a stiff breeze.

Sunday 12th September 2004

From Stoke Golding Wharf to Congerstone Bridge No 47 arriving at 1:05 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 40 minutes. 8.37 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3.14 lock/miles per hour. Did the 8552 hour service before setting off and changed the oil filter. Moored just after bridge 47 and went to the Horse & Jockey for lunch (Roast Beef 7.95 each) a very nice meal with sweets and a bottle of shiraz - 41.60 in all.

From Congerstone Bridge No 47 to SnarestonTunnel arriving at 5:05 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 35 minutes. 3.87 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.44 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 459 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 766 locks, averaging 1.88 lock/miles per hour.

Moored in sight of the tunnel. Some sun this morning but cloudy this afternoon and a stiff breeze all day.

Monday 13th September 2004

Came up through the tunnel to the end of the canal. Turned and backed up to the water point where we spent 15 minutes filling our tank.

From Head of navigation to Shackerstone arriving at 11:00 am. The time taken was 1 hour 20 minutes. 3.5 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.63 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 461 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 766 locks, averaging 1.88 lock/miles per hour.

Came back down to moor at Turn Bridge, No 52. Went to the Rising Sun for lunch (Steak Mushroom & Ale Pie 6.50 each).

From Shackerstone to Stoke Golding Wharf arriving at 4:15 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 20 minutes. 9.5 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.85 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 464 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 766 locks, averaging 1.86 lock/miles per hour.

Moored just past Foster's Bridge. A mostly sunny morning with increasing cloud and rain in the afternoon. Windy.

Went shopping in Stoke Golding before setting off this morning. Stopped at Trinity Marina for one hour fifteen minutes while I did an interview and took some photos. Came on to the Limekilns for lunch (Cod 4.95, Chilli Con Carne 5.25). A windy day with some heavy showers and sunny intervals.

Stopped at Springwood Marina for 25 minutes and took some photos. Came on to Hartshill where we stopped 15 minutes for water before moving to the moorings the other side of the bridge. A mostly sunny day but there were a couple of short showers while we were shopping.

Moored before the top lock at Atherstone. Spent some time in mooring as the only availble space was a few inches too short for us then someone moved off so we backed up to the free space. Went shopping at Somerfield.

From Atherstone Top Lock No 1 to Atherstone Lock No 11 arriving at 3:20 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 30 minutes. 2 miles and 11 locks, averaging 5.2 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 473 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 777 locks, averaging 1.85 lock/miles per hour.

Quiet a few boats were coming up as we came down the locks. Did the flight in i hour 55 minutes then dumped the rubish and came on to moor past Meadow Lane Bridge, No 50. A day of sunshine and cloud.

Saw a kingfisher past Tamhorn House Bridge. Moored on the extreme end of the moorings before the junction. Went to the Swan for dinner (Gammon Steak 7.50, Plaice 6.29, Sweets 2.60 each). A morning of consant drizzle which died out during the afternoon, only one brief sunny interval.

Before we turned and set off from the junction we spent half an hour going up the Swan Line for a pump out (12). Moored on the School Lane visitor mooorings for lunch.

Made pretty good progess up the flight although we were behind a Canaltime boat for the first six locks. Stopped at the top and walked down to the King's Head for lunch (Roast Beef, Chocolate Gateaux 6.45 each for the two courses). Went to Somerfield for some shopping.

Moored on the 7 day moorings just before the wharf. A dry day, sunny this morning but cloudy in the afternoon.

A rather damp trip up the Braunston Locks, sharing with Cressy from Weltonfield for most of the way. Turned up the Leicester Section at the junction but did not stop.

Had lunch at the Five Bells (Roast Beef and sweets 8.95 each) before setting off. Stopped for 35 minutes to fill with water at Gayton Junction then came on to Gayton Marina where we stopped for 20 minutes to get diesel (120.2 litres @ 40p = 40.09) and pumpout (12). A pleasant sunny day.

Saw a kingfisher past Billing Lock. Moored just before the lock. Escape moored behind us a couple of hours later. A warm and mostly dry day, just a few brief showers of fine rain this morning.

Came through the locks with Escape. Moored and went to Tesco's for lunch and shopping.

Came through the locks with Escape. Saw a Little Grebe below Lower Wellingborough Lock. Moored at the Diamond Centre and went to the Seasons Bistro for dinner, excellent as usual but we are concerned for the future as Trish is leaving this week. A general fine day with some sunshine.

Wednesday 29th September 2004

From Irthlingborough Bridge to Islip Lock No 22 arriving at 12:25 am. The time taken was 3 hours 25 minutes. 8.25 miles and 6 locks, averaging 4.17 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 525 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 848 locks, averaging 1.81 lock/miles per hour.

Came through the locks with Tim and Pam on Escape. Had a short wait at Denford Lock as contractors were replacing timbers at the lock entrance. Moored at the Middle Nene Sailing Club for lunch.

From Islip Lock No 22 to Ashton Lock No 28 arriving at 5:10 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 40 minutes. 10.62 miles and 5 locks, averaging 4.26 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 528 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 853 locks, averaging 1.8 lock/miles per hour.

Moored with Escape in the backwater above the lock. A mostly dry but cloudy day.

Thursday 30th September 2004

From Ashton Lock No 28 to Wansford Bridge arriving at 1:25 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 25 minutes. 12.62 miles and 7 locks, averaging 4.44 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 533 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 860 locks, averaging 1.8 lock/miles per hour.

Came through all the locks with Escape. Saw a kingfisher below Ashton Lock and another before Warmington Lock. Moored below Wansford Bridge and Pam and Tim invited us to lunch with them at the Papermill. After lunch checked and tightened the bolts on the 240 volt altenator and found that the pully wheel was loose.

From Wansford Bridge to Orton Lock No 37 arriving at 6:05 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 50 minutes. 9 miles and 3 locks, averaging 4.24 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 535 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 863 locks, averaging 1.8 lock/miles per hour.

Went through the last locks with Escape and waved goodbye to the as we turned off to go to the Boathouse. Had dinner at the Boathouse (Chicken Fajitas 9.95 plus sweets). A wet morning but a dry afternoon.
