Tuesday 1th June 2004

From to Irthlingborough Bridge arriving at 12:55 am. The time taken was 4 hours 5 minutes. 8.25 miles and 6 locks, averaging 3.49 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 39 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 26 locks, averaging 3.23 lock/miles per hour.

A wet trip up the river. The water made the new lock wheels very difficult to operate without gloves. The lock landing above Islip Lock was very slippery in the wet. Stopped on the Nene Park moorings and filled with water (the tap fitting is still non-standard). After lunch on the boat I booked dinner at Seasons Bistro. A wet, drizzley day.

Wednesday 2th June 2004

From Irthlingborough Bridge to Wellingborough Bridge arriving at 10:25 am. The time taken was 2 hours 25 minutes. 5.25 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.41 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 41 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 29 locks, averaging 3.11 lock/miles per hour.

Higham lock lower gates are very heavy to operate and the bridge above the lock has wrong height indicator boards. Lower Wellingborough bottom gates also very heavy. Stopped at Wellingborough where there are now some new moorings and did our shopping at Tescos.

From Wellingborough Bridge to Cogenhoe Lock No 7 arriving at 5:20 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 40 minutes. 6.62 miles and 7 locks, averaging 3.71 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 45 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 36 locks, averaging 3.02 lock/miles per hour.

Shared the last five locks with the narrowboat Hanah, No 326. 21. While waiting to go up through Cogenhoe Lock the boat coming down through the lock had his window smashed by the centre mooring post which broke off and flew through the window. These posts consist of plastic pipes that have been filled with concrete and are not suitable for use as mooring posts. We moored above the lock. A warm day of sunshine and cloud.

Thursday 3th June 2004

From Cogenhoe Lock No 7 to South Bridge, Northampton arriving at 11:35 am. The time taken was 2 hours 50 minutes. 6.12 miles and 6 locks, averaging 4.28 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 47 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 42 locks, averaging 2.96 lock/miles per hour.

Met a narrowbeam Dutch barge coming down the river as we left Clifford Hill Lock and a narrowboat at Weston Favel and the St John's Crusader as we arrived at Rush Mills. Stopped near Morrison's for shopping and lunch on the boat.

From South Bridge, Northampton to Rothersthorpe Bottom Lock No 13 arriving at 3:45 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 55 minutes. 3.25 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.78 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 49 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 46 locks, averaging 2.93 lock/miles per hour.

Came up the locks and moored on the aqueduct. Most of the locks in our favour. A mainly cloudy day with one or two spots of rain.

From Rothersthorpe Bottom Lock No 13 to Gayton Junction arriving at 11:25 am. The time taken was 2 hours 40 minutes. 1.62 miles and 13 locks, averaging 5.48 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 52 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 59 locks, averaging 3.03 lock/miles per hour.

Caught up with a cruiser going up the locks and they let us go by them. Met three other boats coming down. Stopped to fill with water at the junction and Noonie, a new Kingsground boat, moored beside us.

From Gayton Junction to Dodford Road Bridge No 23 arriving at 3:05 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 0 minutes. 8.37 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.79 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 55 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 59 locks, averaging 2.86 lock/miles per hour.

Spent a little time getting out of Gayton Junction as the wind was blowing in the wrong direction for us. Came through Weedon and moored past Bridge 23. A dry and mostly cloudy day.

From Dodford Road Bridge No 23 to Norton Junction arriving at 11:15 am. The time taken was 2 hours 10 minutes. 4 miles and 7 locks, averaging 5.08 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 57 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 66 locks, averaging 2.88 lock/miles per hour.

Came up the locks with Gemini Dream a boat we went down Anderton Lift with two years ago. Turned at the jucction but did not stop.

From Norton Junction to Watling Street Bridge No 5 arriving at 12:00 am. The time taken was 45 minutes. 2 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.67 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 58 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 66 locks, averaging 2.84 lock/miles per hour.

Went up to the winding hole just past the Watling Street Bridge where we turned at 11.45. Came back to moor between bridges 3 and 4. A mostly cloudy day.

Sunday 6th June 2004

From Watling Street Bridge No 5 to Braunston Junction arriving at 11:45 am. The time taken was 3 hours 5 minutes. 5.75 miles and 6 locks, averaging 3.81 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 61 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 72 locks, averaging 2.8 lock/miles per hour.

Came through Braunston Tunnel behind a rather slow Willow Wren hire boat. Shared the first four Braunston Locks with Esme from Calcutt and the last two with another boat. Moored near the marina next to Handsel. Had lunch at the Old Plough (Sirlion Steak 12.35 each). A mostly sunny day.

From Braunston Junction to Coventry Road Bridge No 109 arriving at 12:55 am. The time taken was 2 hours 15 minutes. 5.5 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.44 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 63 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 72 locks, averaging 2.7 lock/miles per hour.

Went into Braunston Marina for a pumpout (5) while Beryl went up to the village shop. Also got the stern gland checked - it did not need repacking but is worn and will need replacing. Saw the Martins on Housemartin at Braunston. Moored for lunch on the boat before the bridge.

From Coventry Road Bridge No 109 to Priors Hardwick Bridge No 123 arriving at 5:50 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 45 minutes. 4.75 miles and 9 locks, averaging 5 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 66 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 81 locks, averaging 2.72 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped 25 minutes for water at the bottom of Napton Locks and 40 minutes at the engine arm to speak with Ken and Margaret Froud and to collect some photos from them. Moored between bridges 123 and 124. A hot sunny day.

Tuesday 8th June 2004

From Priors Hardwick Bridge No 123 to Claydon Bottom Lock No 21 arriving at 1:25 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 25 minutes. 10.25 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.45 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 70 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 86 locks, averaging 2.62 lock/miles per hour.

Came over the summit and down the Claydon Flight. Stopped below the bottom lock for lunch.

From Claydon Bottom Lock No 21 to Cropredy Lock No 25 arriving at 3:40 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 30 minutes. 2.25 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.5 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 72 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 89 locks, averaging 2.61 lock/miles per hour.

Saw an adder swiming across the canal. A lot of boats about today but no long waits at the locks. Stopped before the lock and went to the Red Lion for dinner. A hot day but a little cooler than yesterday.

From Cropredy Lock No 25 to Banbury Lock No 29 arriving at 11:25 am. The time taken was 2 hours 40 minutes. 4.5 miles and 3 locks, averaging 2.81 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 75 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 92 locks, averaging 2.56 lock/miles per hour.

Came down through Cropredy Lock and filled with water. Passed several boats on the way down to Banbury. Moored by the shopping centre and went to Somerfield's. After lunch I did the 8129 hour service and changed the oil filter. A day of sunshine and cloud.

Thursday 10th June 2004

From Banbury Lock No 29 to Aynho Bridge No 190 arriving at 5:25 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 20 minutes. 6.87 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.56 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 78 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 97 locks, averaging 2.51 lock/miles per hour.

Went to the dentist to get my tooth filled in the morning. Had lunch on the boat. Saw a mink in the canal below Kings Sutton Lock. Came down to Aynho passing several boats and shared Aynho Weir Lock with Trent Weaver. Moored just before the bridge next to Freja. Went to the Great Western for dinner, very good but the pub has now been redecorated and is now much more "up market". A day of sunshine and cloud, with a breeze.

Friday 11th June 2004

From Aynho Bridge No 190 to Dashwood's Lock No 37 arriving at 1:00 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 30 minutes. 7.5 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.29 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 81 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 101 locks, averaging 2.45 lock/miles per hour.

There were a lot of boats moored at Lower Heyford and quite a few boats on the move but no queues for locks. Moored below the lock. Another day of sunshine, cloud and breezes.

Saturday 12th June 2004

From Dashwood's Lock No 37 to Langford Lane Bridge No 224 arriving at 1:25 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 35 minutes. 6.75 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 85 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 105 locks, averaging 2.4 lock/miles per hour.

Came down the first locks behind Columbine from Thrupp. Met quite a few other boats including Ronarosa and Snecklifter. Moored for lunch before Roundham Lock.

From Langford Lane Bridge No 224 to River Thames Junction arriving at 3:50 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 35 minutes. 3.75 miles and 3 locks, averaging 4.26 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 87 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 108 locks, averaging 2.39 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped for 40 minutes for water before Dukes Lock.Met two boats coming down Dukes Cut as we went up, an Oxfordshire Narrowboats hire boat and an Anglo Welsh at the junction. Did not stop at the junction.

From River Thames Junction to Eynsham Lock arriving at 5:00 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 10 minutes. 2.5 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 88 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 109 locks, averaging 2.37 lock/miles per hour.

The moorings below the lock were closed so we came up through the lock and moored on the field above the bridge. A day of sunshine and cloud.

Sunday 13th June 2004

From Eynsham Lock to Newbridge arriving at 11:40 am. The time taken was 2 hours 25 minutes. 7.5 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.93 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 90 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 111 locks, averaging 2.33 lock/miles per hour.

Shared Pinkhill Lock with a cruiser and Northmoor with the narrowboat Namrod. Moored at the Rose Revived and went in the Pub for lunch but it was busy with long queues for food and drink so we went across the bridge to the Maybush which was much quieter (Bacon steak and Cod and chips 16.80).

From Newbridge to Rushey Lock arriving at 4:05 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 30 minutes. 6.87 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.55 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 93 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 113 locks, averaging 2.29 lock/miles per hour.

Saw Ivory Gull moored above Shifford Lock. Moored above Rushy Lock. A warm sunny day with lots of dragonflies about.

Monday 14th June 2004

From Rushey Lock to Ha'penny Bridge, Lechlade arriving at 1:50 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 35 minutes. 9.5 miles and 4 locks, averaging 2.95 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 97 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 117 locks, averaging 2.22 lock/miles per hour.

Passed several narrowboats on our journey up the river. Stopped 10 minutes for a pumpout (5) below St Johns Lock. Moored before the bridge and went shopping in the town after lunch. I walked down to the lock to take pictures but no boats came through for over two hours. I talked to the lock keeper, Peter Paine. A hot sunny day.

Tuesday 15th June 2004

From Ha'penny Bridge, Lechlade to Rushey Lock arriving at 1:00 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 55 minutes. 9.5 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.45 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 101 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 121 locks, averaging 2.17 lock/miles per hour.

Had to wait at several locks as there were boats in front of us. Filled with water as we waite for Grafton Lock. Moored for lunch before Rushy Lock in the same spot we used coming up.

From Rushey Lock to Newbridge arriving at 4:00 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 10 minutes. 6.87 miles and 2 locks, averaging 4.09 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 103 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 123 locks, averaging 2.15 lock/miles per hour.

Worked Rushy Lock as the keeper was at lunch. He came back just as we were finishing. Four boats were waiting to come up. There was no Lock keeper at Shifford so we worked that ourselves too. Moored just past the Rose Revived and had dinner there in the evening. A warm sunny day with a breeze.

Wednesday 16th June 2004

From Newbridge to Duke's Cut Junction arriving at 12:30 am. The time taken was 2 hours 50 minutes. 10 miles and 3 locks, averaging 4.59 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 106 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 126 locks, averaging 2.12 lock/miles per hour.

Saw a kingfisher below Northmoor Lock. Stopped at Anglo Welsh at Eynsham for diesel (152.2 litres @ 40p = 60.88) but it took 40 minutes to get someone to serve us and to complete the transaction. Went on to moor at Hagley Pool for lunch.

From Duke's Cut Junction to Osney Bridge arriving at 2:35 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 20 minutes. 3.5 miles and 2 locks, averaging 4.13 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 108 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 128 locks, averaging 2.11 lock/miles per hour.

A lot of boats were moored above Osney Lock but we found a space on the end near the lock. Went to Sainsbury's for shopping. A hot sunny day following a cloudy start.

From Osney Bridge to Isis Lock No 46 arriving at 2:10 pm. The time taken was 15 minutes. 0.12 miles and 0 locks, averaging 0.48 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 108 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 128 locks, averaging 2.11 lock/miles per hour.

In the morning Beryl went shopping in Oxford while I bought a couple of new heads for our mop and caught up with some jobs on the boat. Turned the boat before lunch so that we could set off for the Oxford Canal. Did not stop at the lock.

From Isis Lock No 46 to Thrupp Bend arriving at 5:30 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 20 minutes. 6.5 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.45 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 111 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 133 locks, averaging 2.09 lock/miles per hour.

Passed several boats as we came up the canal. Squeezed into a mooring spot near The Boat, the people on the boat behind moved down a bit so we could fit in. A cloudy and cooler day.

From Thrupp Bend to North Brook Lock No 38 arriving at 12:15 am. The time taken was 2 hours 25 minutes. 5.75 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.62 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 114 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 136 locks, averaging 2.07 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped at Trupp for water and had to wait 15 minutes to get onto the water point plus 25 minutes to fill up. Moored beside the Cherwell before reaching North Brook Lock. A day of sunshine and cloud.

Saturday 19th June 2004

From North Brook Lock No 38 to Somerton Deep Lock No 34 arriving at 12:35 am. The time taken was 3 hours 35 minutes. 6.12 miles and 4 locks, averaging 2.82 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 117 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 140 locks, averaging 2.04 lock/miles per hour.

Passed Wickford coming down through Dashwood Lock as we came up and were behind the 72 foot Empress of Blandings going up through Allen's and Heyford Common locks. Moored before Somerton for lunch. A Sunny morning with increasing cloud, and showers in the afternoon.

Sunday 20th June 2004

From Somerton Deep Lock No 34 to Twyford Bridge No 177 arriving at 12:35 am. The time taken was 3 hours 15 minutes. 6 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.08 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 120 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 144 locks, averaging 2.02 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped 20 minutes for water at Aynho Wharf and bought a new small tray in the shop but could not get any gas as Ian had not arrived. A day of sunshine and cloud with some showers. We moored just past the bridge. Ivor Batchelor came along with Mountbatten and Jellicoe a little while after we moored.

Monday 21st June 2004

From Twyford Bridge No 177 to Banbury Lock No 29 arriving at 10:15 am. The time taken was 1 hour 15 minutes. 2.75 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 122 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 145 locks, averaging 2.01 lock/miles per hour.

Set off as Jays Nest (from the Lee & Stort) passed us and we followed them through Grant's Lock. Moored at the Tramway Moorings by Bridge 168 and did our shopping in Morrison's. Had lunch on the boat.

From Banbury Lock No 29 to Grimsbury Wharf arriving at 2:00 pm. The time taken was 40 minutes. 0.75 miles and 1 locks, averaging 2.63 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 122 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 146 locks, averaging 2 lock/miles per hour.

Came up to moor at Banbury so Beryl could do a bit of Shopping.

From Grimsbury Wharf to Cropredy Lock No 25 arriving at 6:05 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 25 minutes. 3.75 miles and 4 locks, averaging 2.27 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 126 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 150 locks, averaging 1.98 lock/miles per hour.

A slow trip up through the locks as we had to queue at each one. No moorings were available before Cropredy Lock but we found one above the lock after some people had kindly moved up for us. Had dinner at the Red Lion (Sirlion Steak 12.95 each). A day of sunshine and cloud with some heavy showers about but we missed them and olny had a couple of brief light showers.

Tuesday 22nd June 2004

From Cropredy Lock No 25 to Fenny Compton Wharf arriving at 12:20 am. The time taken was 3 hours 40 minutes. 6.25 miles and 8 locks, averaging 3.89 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 129 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 158 locks, averaging 1.99 lock/miles per hour.

Came up the locks behind a single handed boat. Stopped 10 minutes at Fenny Compton Marina for gas (14.25). Moored at Fenny Wharf for lunch and were close enough to the water point to fill up from our mooring.

From Fenny Compton Wharf to Priors Hardwick Bridge No 123 arriving at 4:20 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 5 minutes. 6.25 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 131 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 158 locks, averaging 1.96 lock/miles per hour.

A fairly clear run along the summit. Moored after bridge 124 and before 123. A sunny morning but cloudy in the afternoon.

Thursday 24th June 2004

From Priors Hardwick Bridge No 123 to Coventry Road Bridge No 109 arriving at 12:20 am. The time taken was 3 hours 10 minutes. 4.75 miles and 9 locks, averaging 4.34 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 135 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 167 locks, averaging 1.98 lock/miles per hour.

After spending a whole day moored on the summit, while the wind and rain beat around us, we set off again and came down Napton Locks. Only passed two boats coming up the flight. Stopped 15 minutes for water at the bottom then came on to moor between the Bridge Inn and the Marina. A windy, mostly cloudy day, some short sunny spells and after we stopped some showers.

Friday 25th June 2004

From Coventry Road Bridge No 109 to Stockton Bottom Lock No 12 arriving at 12:55 am. The time taken was 3 hours 10 minutes. 4.25 miles and 11 locks, averaging 4.82 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 138 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 178 locks, averaging 2.01 lock/miles per hour.

Could not get a pumpout at Napton so went on to Calcutt. Stopped for 35 minutes while I got a new impeller for the bath water pump and fitted it. Stopped again after Calcutt top lock for 15 minutes for a pumpout (13). Shared the bottom lock and all the other locks today with Richard on Valhalla, from Dunstable & District Boat Club. Stopped for lunch at the Blue Lias (Haddock Fillet 6.25 each).

From Stockton Bottom Lock No 12 to Radford Road Bridge No 35 arriving at 6:05 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 5 minutes. 5.62 miles and 12 locks, averaging 4.32 lock/miles per hour. Moored in the open countryside a little way past Radford Lock. A mostly sunny day.

Moored by bridge 40 at Leamington Spa for 1 hour 20 minutes while I went into town to colect the post and to buy a new tapr recorder. Moored alongside Valhalla at the moorings by Tescos. Went shopping and had lunch.

Moored with Richard on Valhalla below Cape Bottom Lock for 55 minutes while we both filled with water. We came up the locks and moored just before the junction as it was raining hard. A cloudy day with frequent showers.

Sunday 27th June 2004

From Budbrooke Junction to Turners Green Bridge No 63 arriving at 1:10 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 0 minutes. 6.5 miles and 21 locks, averaging 5.5 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 149 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 213 locks, averaging 2.09 lock/miles per hour.

Came up the locks breasted up with Valhalla and Richard lock wheeling on his bike. Said goodbye to Richaed at the top lock and came on to have lunch at the Tom O the Wood (Roast Beef 6.95 each, Profitteroles 3.50 each). A sunny day with some cloud.

Monday 28th June 2004

From Turners Green Bridge No 63 to Lapworth Lock No 6 arriving at 1:30 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 30 minutes. 2 miles and 15 locks, averaging 4.86 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 153 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 228 locks, averaging 2.14 lock/miles per hour.

Turned onto the Stratford upon Avon Canal and went up the first few locks. Stopped 20 minutes for water then moored 40 minites above lock 15 for shopping. A lot of boats were going up and down the flight. Stopped above lock 6 for lunch.

From Lapworth Lock No 6 to Waring's Green Bridge No 19 arriving at 5:10 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 10 minutes. 3.75 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.58 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 155 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 232 locks, averaging 2.14 lock/miles per hour.

Came up the last four locks and along to moor past the bridge opposite the Stephen Goldsbrough Boats moorings. A dry and mostly sunny day.

Tuesday 29th June 2004

From Waring's Green Bridge No 19 to King's Norton Junction arriving at 12:15 am. The time taken was 2 hours 55 minutes. 7.75 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 158 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 233 locks, averaging 2.11 lock/miles per hour.

Pass a few Alvechurch and Anglo Welsh boats coming down the canal. At the Draw Bridge (No. 8) we met Katie, the Away 4 Awhile hotel boat. Did not stop at the junction.

Stratford upon Avon Canal to Worcester and Birmingham Canal

From King's Norton Junction to Tardebigge Top Lock No 58 arriving at 3:25 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 10 minutes. 8.62 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3.04 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 161 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 234 locks, averaging 2.07 lock/miles per hour.

A good run down the canal which was looking in good order nearly everywhere. Moored below the lock. A dry but mostly cloudy day.

Wednesday 30th June 2004

From Tardebigge Top Lock No 58 to Tardebigge Bottom Lock No 29 arriving at 1:00 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 55 minutes. 2.25 miles and 29 locks, averaging 7.98 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 165 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 263 locks, averaging 2.2 lock/miles per hour.

Set off down the Tardebigge flight with two boats behind us. Passed about three boats coming up. Moored at the bottom and went to the Queens Head for lunch but they had a very limited menu for lunch. Had a ham and cheese Ploughmans 5.25 and a Chilli Jacket Potato 4.95.

From Tardebigge Bottom Lock No 29 to Stoke Salt Works Bridge No 42 arriving at 4:05 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 30 minutes. 1.62 miles and 6 locks, averaging 5.08 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 166 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 269 locks, averaging 2.21 lock/miles per hour.

Came down the Stoke Locks and Beryl went to post her cards at the bottom lock while I workedthe lock. Moored 15 minutes for water at Bridge 42 then spent 10 minutes moving a few yards down to our overnight mooring. A showery morning but dry in the afternoon with a little sun.
