Friday 1th September 2000

From to Shepperton Lock arriving at 12:50 am. The time taken was 3 hours 10 minutes. 10.75 miles and 3 locks, averaging 4.34 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 577 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 886 locks, averaging 1.71 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped for a pumpout (5) above Molesey Lock. Moored by the Thames Court, above the lock, for lunch etc. A dry morning but a showery afternoon.

Saturday 2th September 2000

From Shepperton Lock to Bell Weir Lock arriving at 12:10 am. The time taken was 2 hours 40 minutes. 6.87 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.7 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 580 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 889 locks, averaging 1.7 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped for water (15 minutes) below Chertsey Lock. Moored on the visitor moorings a little way past Bell Weir Lock for lunch.

Stopped on the visitor moorings opposite the entrance to the Race Course Yacht Basin. A day of sunshine and cloud with a couple of showers this afternoon.

A lot of boats on the move today and we had to wait at a few locks. Moored for lunch at the Bourne End Wharf.

Moored a little way before the bridge, on the Remenham side. A mostly sunny day with some cloud and a cool breeze.

Monday 4th September 2000

From Henley Bridge to High Bridge, Reading arriving at 12:25 am. The time taken was 2 hours 55 minutes. 8.87 miles and 4 locks, averaging 4.41 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 593 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 904 locks, averaging 1.69 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped for water (15 minutes) just above Shiplake Lock and met Ragamuffin, from the Kennet & Avon, who were filling up before us. Went through Sonning Lock with them and saw a kingfisher above the lock. Turned off on to the Kennet and moored by the prison. Collected the post and after lunch went shopping. A mostly sunny day.

Tuesday 5th September 2000

From High Bridge, Reading to Gatehampton Railway Bridge arriving at 12:35 am. The time taken was 3 hours 10 minutes. 10.62 miles and 4 locks, averaging 4.62 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 596 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 908 locks, averaging 1.69 lock/miles per hour.

It took us half an hour to get down from the Kennet, through Blakes Lock, and on to Better Boating where we filled with diesel (126.67 litres for 30.40) taking 10 minutes. Saw a mink on the bank near Tilehurst. Stopped for lunch on the visitor moorings at Child Beale.

From Gatehampton Railway Bridge to Wallingford Bridge arriving at 4:15 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 30 minutes. 7.25 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.7 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 598 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 910 locks, averaging 1.69 lock/miles per hour.

Saw a kingfisher soon after setting off from Child Beale and another near Wallingford Bypass Bridge. Moored on the towpath side just above the bridge. A sunny start soon clouded over and we had one or two brief showers.

Wednesday 6th September 2000

From Wallingford Bridge to Abingdon Bridge arriving at 5:45 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 35 minutes. 13 miles and 4 locks, averaging 4.74 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 602 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 914 locks, averaging 1.68 lock/miles per hour.

Went shopping at Waitrose in Wallingford and had lunch before setting off. Saw two kingfishers, one near Dorchester and the other above Clifton Lock. Moored above the bridge (4). A cloudy morning with some showers but a sunny afternoon.

Thursday 7th September 2000

From Abingdon Bridge to Folly Bridge arriving at 12:15 am. The time taken was 2 hours 25 minutes. 8.25 miles and 3 locks, averaging 4.66 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 604 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 917 locks, averaging 1.68 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped above Abingdon Lock for 30 minutes while we filled with water and had a pumpout (5). Followed Elementary and another narrowboat up the river and through Sandford and Iffley Locks. Moored on the rings just below the Bridge for lunch etc. A cloudy day.

From Folly Bridge to Eynsham Lock arriving at 12:00 am. The time taken was 2 hours 15 minutes. 7.12 miles and 3 locks, averaging 4.5 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 607 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 920 locks, averaging 1.68 lock/miles per hour.

After a day spent at Oxford, when we did the 5703 hours service and did some shopping, we came up to Eynsham where we filled with water (10 minutes) then stopped for lunch on the visitor moorings.

The lock keeper at Pinkhill was at lunch so we worked the lock ourselves. Moored a little way before the Rose Revived. A mostly sunny day clouding over this afternoon.

Sunday 10th September 2000

From Newbridge to Ha'penny Bridge, Lechlade arriving at 3:35 pm. The time taken was 6 hours 5 minutes. 16.37 miles and 6 locks, averaging 3.68 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 615 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 929 locks, averaging 1.67 lock/miles per hour.

Saw two kingfishers, one just past Newbridge and the other above Shifford Lock. Wanted to moor at Radcot but there were no spaces so we had lunch on the move and came on to moor a little way before the bridge. Had dinner at the New Inn Hotel (Vegeterian Lasagne 5.95 and Lamb Cutlets 8.95). A hot and sunny day.Ha'penny Bridge, Lechlade:  - 11th September 2000.

Monday 11th September 2000

From Ha'penny Bridge, Lechlade to Radcot Bridge arriving at 4:20 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 15 minutes. 6.25 miles and 3 locks, averaging 4.11 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 617 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 932 locks, averaging 1.67 lock/miles per hour.

Spent the morning at Lechlade, shopping ordering a new drive belt for the Rediline alternator and fixing it when it arrived just after lunch. Saw a kingfisher below St John's lock. Filled with water above Grafton Lock (10 minutes). A hot and mostly sunny day.

From Radcot Bridge to Newbridge arriving at 12:20 am. The time taken was 3 hours 5 minutes. 10.12 miles and 3 locks, averaging 4.26 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 620 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 935 locks, averaging 1.67 lock/miles per hour.

Came through Shifford Lock with Dittone (from Thames Ditton). Stopped at The Rose Revived for lunch (Roasted Vegetable Pancake and Cajun Chicken Melt 13.80 the two).Radcot Lock:  - 10th September 2000.

Tuesday 12th September 2000

From Newbridge to Osney Bridge arriving at 5:50 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 20 minutes. 13.5 miles and 5 locks, averaging 4.27 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 625 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 940 locks, averaging 1.66 lock/miles per hour.

Came through Eynsham Lock with Dittone and stopped for 15 minutes below the lock for a pumpout (5). Had to work Godstow Lock as there was no keeper there - the second lock we worked today. Moored just past the bridge.

Went shopping at Sainsbury's before lunch. Saw a kingfisher near Nunham. Moored on the visitor moorings above the lock. A mostly cloudy day.

Stopped for water above Abiigdon Lock (20 minutes) and were joined by Scythia, coming up from the lock. Clifton lock was not manned today (due to the fuel shortages perhaps?). Saw a kingfisher just before Shillingford. Moored a little way up from the bridge. A dull day with showers before we set off and this evening.

A wet trip down the river. Moored at the begining of the moorings below the bridge for lunch etc. A cloudy afternoon with more showers.

Saturday 16th September 2000

From Whitchurch Lock to Sonning Bridge arriving at 12:35 am. The time taken was 2 hours 50 minutes. 9.62 miles and 3 locks, averaging 4.45 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 637 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 954 locks, averaging 1.65 lock/miles per hour.

Saw two kingfishers below Mapledurham Lock. Stopped at Better Boating in Reading to top up with diesel (66.68 litres 18.67) and Angela telephoned before we left (20 minutes in all). Stopped for lunch on the Great House Hotel moorings and went down to the French Horn and had a drink but did not stay for lunch as they had no real vegetarian options. Had lunch at the Bull (Warm Goats Cheese 6.50, Mediterranean Pork 11.95).

Saw a mink swimming across the river just below Sonning. Stopped for water above Shiplake Lock (10 minutes). Moored just below the bridge. A day of cloud and some sunshine.

Had to work Marlow Lock as there was no lock keeper there today and a lot of boats were going through. Saw a kingfisher just after Marlow Lock. Stopped on the visitor moorings at Cookham (4). A mostly cloudy day but some sunshine in the afternoon.

From Cookham Bridge to Maidenhead Bridge arriving at 11:00 am. The time taken was 1 hour 10 minutes. 3.12 miles and 2 locks, averaging 4.39 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 644 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 962 locks, averaging 1.65 lock/miles per hour.

Had a walk into Cookham but as there was no good provisions shop we decided to go on to Maidenhead. Filled with water (10 minutes) above Cookham Lock. Moored between Boulter's Lock and the bridge. Went shopping at Tesco's and came back to the boat for lunch. A wet day. The river running quite fast this afternoon.

Tuesday 19th September 2000

From Maidenhead Bridge to Staines Bridge arriving at 1:35 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 10 minutes. 13.87 miles and 5 locks, averaging 4.53 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 648 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 967 locks, averaging 1.64 lock/miles per hour.

Saw two parrots at Bray and a kingfisher a mile or so further on. Stopped for 10 minutes below Boveney Lock for a pumput (5). Came through the last two locks with nb Otter, from Great Haywood. moored just past the bridge and went to the Old Swan for lunch (Minted Lamb Steak 9.75, Mushroom Stroganoff 6.95). A cloudy day with rain in the afternoon.

From Staines Bridge to Teddington Lock arriving at 4:45 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 10 minutes. 16.62 miles and 6 locks, averaging 5.43 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 652 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 973 locks, averaging 1.64 lock/miles per hour.

Went shopping at Sainsbury's before having an early lunch and leaving Staines. Had to work Chertsey lock ourselves as the lock keeper was at lunch. Moored for 15 minutes below the lock to fill up with water. Moored a little way above Teddington Lock. A mostly cloudy day with some rain and some sun.

Thursday 21st September 2000

From Teddington Lock to Packet Boat Bridge No 190 arriving at 3:05 pm. The time taken was 7 hours 5 minutes. 14.62 miles and 13 locks, averaging 3.9 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 659 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 986 locks, averaging 1.65 lock/miles per hour.

Set off at 8am and were through Teddington Lock by 8.15. Saw two kingfishers one above Teddington Lock and the other a little way below. Got to Thames Lock, Brentford at 9.05 but had to wait for two narrowboats - Wilson and Lavender Lee - to go through in front of us. Saw two Jays on the way up to Hanwell bottom lock. Moored opposite The Turning Point where we had dinner (14.95 each for starter and main course). A sunny morning but clouds and showers in the afternoon.

Friday 22nd September 2000

From Packet Boat Bridge No 190 to Widewater Lock No 86 arriving at 12:20 am. The time taken was 2 hours 35 minutes. 4.87 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.05 lock/miles per hour. Came through Cowley Lock with Welland, from Stowe Hill. Stopped for water above the lock (15 minutes). Stopped 20 minutes at the Uxbridge Boat Centre for a new boat pole (33.90) and some gas (14.99). Came through Uxbridge Lock with Capricorn, from Ely, through Denham with Water Lily, from the Lee, and through Widewater with Welland again. Stopped above the lock for lunch etc. A mostly sunny day.

From Widewater Lock No 86 to Batchworth Junction arriving at 11:35 am. The time taken was 2 hours 35 minutes. 4.25 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.58 lock/miles per hour. Saw a kingfisher above Copper Mill Lock. Came through several locks with Elizabeth, from Adelaide Marine. Stopped on Tesco's Moorings at Rickmansworth, did some shopping and had lunch.

Came through the locks by ourselves and moored a little way above the lock. A warm sunny day.

Came up the first three locks by ourselves but shared the rest with a boat from Langley Mill. It started to rain hard around at midday so we moored for lunch and called it a day. A cloudy morning and a wet afternoon.

Stopped for water at Apsley Locks (45 minutes) then went on to moor below Winkwell Bottom Lock and walked up to the Three Horseshoes for Lunch (Cajan Pork Fillet 8.95, Cheese Baked Potato 4.40) very good.

Stopped 10 minutes for a pumpout (12) at Bridgewater Boats then went on to moor near Waitrose. Went across to the Post Office to collect the mail. A sunny morning giving way to a cloudy and wet afternoon.

Came through more locks alone this afternoon. Did 21 altogether today. Moored a little way before Horton Lock. A mostly cloudy day, a few spots of rain and some brief sunny intervals.

Wednesday 27th September 2000

Stopped 25 minutes for water above Slapton Lock just before Dawn and Dusk arrived. Below Grove Church Lock we passed another pair of hotel boats - Duke and Duchess. Moored on the 2 hour moorings outside Tesco's, had lunch in the coffee shop and did our shopping.

Move a little way on to moor opposite The Wyvern Shipping Company boatyard. Went and spoke to the people on Josel which was moored behind us. A sunny start that soon clouded over with some showers in the afternoon.
