Filled with water at Boston before setting off. Turned on to Kyme Eau but did not stop.

From Chapel Hill to Ewerby Waithe Common arriving at 3:00 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 50 minutes. 6.5 miles and 1 locks, averaging 1.96 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 280 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 417 locks, averaging 1.84 lock/miles per hour.

Came up the navigation and scraped under Ferry Bridge at Halfpenny Hatch, damaging the canvas and the tunnel light. Went about half a mile further before getting stuck.

Tuesday 2th June 1998

From South Kyme to Lower Kyme Lock arriving at 12:05 am. The time taken was 2 hours 55 minutes. 2.62 miles and 1 locks, averaging 1.24 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 285 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 418 locks, averaging 1.81 lock/miles per hour.

Came backwards two and a half miles in the rain and turned above the lock and went in. Stopped in the lock for lunch, Chicken Chasseur that Beryl had cooked on the way.

Stopped had coffee and looked round the village but Beryl did not want to do any shopping there.

Stopped for water above Bardney lock (30 minutes). Got held up a while at Stamp End Lock as boats were going up in front of us and some were coming down. Moored on the Brayford Pool visitor moorings and went to Morrison's for our shopping. A cloudy day with rain in the afternoon.

Thursday 4th June 1998

Paid 4 mooring fee. Went to look round the shops and to send off Jim's Jottings to Waterways World. Had lunch at the Lion and Snake (3 courses; soup, chicken & Mushroom pie, apple pie 5.50 each) very good. Came on to the visitor moorings here to start work repairing the cratch and for tea etc. Gave a jump start to a cruiser - Amanda - that was having trouble. Sunshine and cloud.

Friday 5th June 1998

From Saxilby Bridge to Torksey Lock arriving at 3:30 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 20 minutes. 5.12 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3.84 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 296 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 420 locks, averaging 1.76 lock/miles per hour.

Did repair work on the cratch in the morning and set off after lunch. Moored on the 72 hour moorings above the lock. Some sunshine in the morning but clouding over for the afternoon.

Saturday 6th June 1998

From Torksey Lock to Torksey Junction arriving at 4:00 pm. The time taken was 15 minutes. 0.25 miles and 1 locks, averaging 5 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 296 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 421 locks, averaging 1.76 lock/miles per hour.

Spent the day painting the cratch. Moved down to the lock to fill with water and have a pump out. Came through the lock with a cruiser and moored on the transit moorings below. A cloudy day but warmer than yesterday.

Sunday 7th June 1998

From Torksey Junction to Cooper's Bridge, Misterton arriving at 11:45 am. The time taken was 4 hours 15 minutes. 16.37 miles and 3 locks, averaging 4.56 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 300 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 424 locks, averaging 1.74 lock/miles per hour.

Came down the Trent and through West Stockwith Lock in 3 hours. Bought some Calor gas from the lock keeper (11.50). Moored just before bridge 80 for lunch. Did an engine service (3662 hours) and had a walk round the village. A mostly sunny day but a heavy shower in the afternoon.

Monday 8th June 1998

From Cooper's Bridge, Misterton to Clayworth Top Bridge No 67 arriving at 1:15 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 15 minutes. 7.87 miles and 2 locks, averaging 2.32 lock/miles per hour. Slow going shallow and weedy. Saw a kingfisher before Drakeholes Tunnel. Stopped at the Worksop & Retford Boat Club moorings and went to the Blacksmith's Arms for lunch (Grilled Tuna and Gammon & Pineapple 5.75 each). Beryl cut my hair. A cloudy day wet in the afternoon.

Tuesday 9th June 1998

From Clayworth Top Bridge No 67 to Retford Lock No 59 arriving at 11:00 am. The time taken was 2 hours 20 minutes. 5.62 miles and 1 locks, averaging 2.84 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 307 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 427 locks, averaging 1.72 lock/miles per hour.

Moored before the lock and went to collect the post and do some shopping at the Co-op. After lunch posted some letters and repaired the cratch cover. A windy day with some sunshine but rain in the afternoon.

Wednesday 10th June 1998

From Retford Lock No 59 to Chequer House Bridge arriving at 12:10 am. The time taken was 3 hours 25 minutes. 5.12 miles and 6 locks, averaging 3.25 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 310 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 433 locks, averaging 1.72 lock/miles per hour.

Saw nb Chesterton at Forrest Locks (saw him at Clayworth and at Blakes Lock last year). Moored at the Chequers, Ranby, and had lunch in the pub (Plaice and chips 4.45, Lamb chops 9.25) very good.

From Chequer House Bridge to Winding hole arriving at 4:40 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 45 minutes. 5.37 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.41 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 313 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 437 locks, averaging 1.71 lock/miles per hour.

Came up to the winding hole before morse lock and turned back to moor below the town lock.

From Winding hole to Worksop Town Lock No 50 arriving at 5:00 pm. The time taken was 20 minutes. 0.12 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3.36 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 313 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 438 locks, averaging 1.72 lock/miles per hour.

Moored for the night. A day of sunshine and cloud with rain in the middle of the day.

Thursday 11th June 1998

From Worksop Town Lock No 50 to Forrest Locks Nos 54 to 57 arriving at 12:40 am. The time taken was 3 hours 30 minutes. 6.25 miles and 4 locks, averaging 2.93 lock/miles per hour. Stopped for water and lunch above the second Forrest lock. BW were working on the lock chamber from a work boat.

From Forrest Locks Nos 54 to 57 to River Idle Aqueduct arriving at 3:45 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 5 minutes. 3.87 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.78 lock/miles per hour. Stopped by ASDA and went shopping. Found that my notebook computer was not working.

From River Idle Aqueduct to Clarborough Top Bridge No 62 arriving at 12:50 am. The time taken was 1 hour 40 minutes. 3 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3 lock/miles per hour. From Clarborough Top Bridge No 62 to Drakeholes Tunnel (South end) arriving at 4:15 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 35 minutes. 5.87 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.27 lock/miles per hour. Came down the Trent and got through Keadby lock (without hitting the sides) in 2 hours 5 minutes. Moored a little way before the bridge. A cloudy day with rain. Heavy rain as we came into Keaby lock.

Did some shopping and then went to the Belmont for lunch (3 courses 10 for two). When we came back the narrowboat Wayfarer - from Bristol - arrived. We had seen them at St John's Lock Lechlade earlier this year. A cloudy day.

From Thorne bridge to Bramwith Lock No 14 arriving at 11:15 am. The time taken was 2 hours 0 minutes. 4.87 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.44 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 334 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 456 locks, averaging 1.66 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped for water above the lock. A very slow tap so we had lunch while we waited.

From Bramwith Lock No 14 to Sprotbrough Bridge arriving at 3:35 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 15 minutes. 10.25 miles and 4 locks, averaging 4.38 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 338 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 460 locks, averaging 1.66 lock/miles per hour.

Followed a SIBC cruiser through the Barnby Dun Lift bridge and had a pumpout at Long Sandall Lock. Bought a card for 6 but found we could use the pumpout without it. Moored above the bridge. A cool cloudy day.

Wednesday 17th June 1998

From Sprotbrough Bridge to Sir Frank Price Lock No 5 arriving at 1:00 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 45 minutes. 10.25 miles and 5 locks, averaging 4.07 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 341 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 465 locks, averaging 1.65 lock/miles per hour.

As we were coming into the lock Forever Cut and Fragil were coming out. We moored above the lock and had a roast pork lunch that Beryl had cooked on the way. A cloudy day with some light rain in the afternoon.

Thursday 18th June 1998

From Sir Frank Price Lock No 5 to Sheffield Basin arriving at 1:00 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 10 minutes. 7.62 miles and 15 locks, averaging 5.43 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 346 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 480 locks, averaging 1.68 lock/miles per hour.

Had a good journey up the locks helped by a very good BW man who prepared all the Tindsley Flight locks for us. Moored in the basin and had lunch at the Crucible Theatre (Lamb chops, lemon brule and a bottle of wine 33.75). Did some shopping at Somerfield and bought a new haversack at Millets. A cloudy day with some light rain.

Saturday 20th June 1998

From Sheffield Basin to Sprotbrough Bridge arriving at 3:30 pm. The time taken was 7 hours 20 minutes. 17.87 miles and 20 locks, averaging 5.16 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 353 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 500 locks, averaging 1.7 lock/miles per hour.

After filling with water at Victoria Quays we set off at 8.10 to reach the top lock at 9.00, Came down the locks with three men on Hubberholme, they stopped at Rotherham but we went on, having luch on the move, to Sprotbough forthe night etc. A cloudy day with some showers.

Sunday 21st June 1998

From Sprotbrough Bridge to Barney Dun Lift Bridge arriving at 12:15 am. The time taken was 2 hours 20 minutes. 9 miles and 3 locks, averaging 5.14 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 355 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 503 locks, averaging 1.7 lock/miles per hour.

Moored just before the bridge with Forever Cut and Fragil. Went to the Star for Sunday Lunch with Tim, Babara, Frank and Gillian (Roast Pork 3.50).

On the river Aire there are new landing stages at Bank Dole and Haddersley locks and we met a diver at Beal Lock measuring up the lock. Saw a kingfisher on the Selby Canal. Went shopping at Safeway. A day of sunshine and cloud.

Tuesday 23rd June 1998

From Selby Lock No 4 to Barmby-on-the-Marsh Lock and Junction arriving at 82:0 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 25 minutes. 6.5 miles and 2 locks, averaging 6 lock/miles per hour. Started off at 8.15 and out on the Ouse by 8.25. Got into Barmby Lock without a knock and moored on the landing stage above the lock and walked back to buy a licence (12 for a year).

Stopped above the bridge. Had lunch at the White Swan (Gammon & egg 5, Haddock 4.20) and had a look round the village.

Came up the Derwent and on to the weedy canal. No landing stages at locks or swing bridges. Struggled through thick weed until just past the bridge where we moored with the back of the boat well out into the canal. Cloudy with some sunshine and light showers.

Wednesday 24th June 1998

From Hagg Bridge to Melbourne Basin Junction arriving at 11:10 am. The time taken was 1 hour 45 minutes. 2.75 miles and 1 locks, averaging 2.14 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 372 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 513 locks, averaging 1.64 lock/miles per hour.

The weed not so bad above Gardham Lock. Moored at the Basin and walked down th Thornton Lock, which was padlocked and blocked by reeds, and then onto the village where we had lunch at the Cross Keys (Chips 1.20, Ham Bagette 2.75).

From Melbourne Basin Junction to Cottingwith Ferry Junction arriving at 3:40 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 35 minutes. 5 miles and 2 locks, averaging 2.71 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 375 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 515 locks, averaging 1.64 lock/miles per hour.

Back to the Derwent - did not stop.

Saw a Banks (of Selby) hire boat coming up the river, just before we passed Bubwith. Moored by the bank just past Breighton. The river level down about a foot this evening. Saw a deer as we came down. Cloud, sunshine and light rain today.

A good trip up the river. Saw two dead cows floating with the tide. Bumped the lock at Selby. Filled with water and had a pumpout - free again. Forevercut and Fragil had just arrived at Selby. Came up from Selby with Forever Cut, Fragil, Faith and Shelley Anne. Took just over 2 hours on the tideway but packing and filling Naburn Lock as slow as usual. Moored on the visitor moorings above the lock for lunch etc. Wet with sunny intervals.

Sunday 28th June 1998

From Naburn Locks to Lendal Bridge, York arriving at 2:50 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 55 minutes. 6 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3.13 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 384 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 519 locks, averaging 1.61 lock/miles per hour.

Watched the boats going down and up through the Naburn Lock. After lunch we set off at 12.45 and stopped at Naburn Marina for diesel (115 litres 26.58) and toilet blue. Moored above the bridge next to Shelly Anne. A day of sunshine and cloudy with a couple of showers.

Monday 29th June 1998

From Lendal Bridge, York to Boroughbridge arriving at 5:25 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 25 minutes. 20.37 miles and 2 locks, averaging 4.13 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 389 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 521 locks, averaging 1.59 lock/miles per hour.

Went shopping in York in the morning and set off at noon. Had lunch on the move. Went too far to the left below Linton Lock and went aground on the mud banks. Paid 18 for the monthly lock pass plus a 10 deposit for the key. Moored between two hire cruisers below the bridge. A cloudy day with a few sunny spells.

Tuesday 30th June 1998

From Boroughbridge to Ripon Basin arriving at 1:40 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 5 minutes. 6.87 miles and 3 locks, averaging 2.42 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 393 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 524 locks, averaging 1.58 lock/miles per hour.

Set off after filling with water. Met the narrowboat Craycombe Companion, from Fladbury, at Westwick Lock and went up through the locks with them. A slow progress due to a cruiser in front and some slow filling locks. Turned and moored in the basin. Had lunch at the Water Rat (Caijan Chicken 4.65, Pasta Bake 3.95) nice pub but food below par. Did a bit of shopping in town. A dull cloudy day.
