2005 Voyage - October

Saturday 1st October 2005

From Cogenhoe Lock No 7 to Irthlingborough Bridge arriving at 3:15 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 30 minutes. 11.88 miles and 10 locks, averaging 3.98 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 576 hours 30 minutes total cruising time, 1,276.38 miles and 860 locks, averaging 3.71 lock/miles per hour over the whole voyage.

We came non-stop from Cogenhoe, having lunch on the move. Moored at the Diamond Centre and had dinner at the Season's Bistro. A day of sunshine, cloud and showers with some windy periods.

Sunday 2nd October 2005

From Irthlingborough Bridge to Wadenhoe Lock No 24 arriving at 1:45 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 40 minutes. 13.00 miles and 7 locks, averaging 4.29 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 581 hours 10 minutes total cruising time, 1,289.38 miles and 867 locks, averaging 3.71 lock/miles per hour over the whole voyage.

Saw a lot of kingfishers this morning 2 before Upper Ringstead Lock, and one at each of the following places; below Lower Ringstead, by the railway bridge between Ringstead and Woodford, below Titchmarsh Lock and before Wadenhoe. Stopped for lunch at the King's Head but the pub was closed.

From Wadenhoe Lock No 24 to Upper Barnwell Lock No 26 arriving at 4:05 pm. The time taken was 1 hours 40 minutes. 3.50 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.30 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 582 hours 50 minutes total cruising time, 1,292.88 miles and 869 locks, averaging 3.71 lock/miles per hour over the whole voyage.

Moored below the lock and went to Barnwell Mill for dinner. A sunny day.

Monday 3rd October 2005

From Upper Barnwell Lock No 26 to Orton Lock No 37 arriving at 5:40 pm. The time taken was 7 hours 55 minutes. 24.00 miles and 11 locks, averaging 4.42 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 590 hours 45 minutes total cruising time, 1,316.88 miles and 880 locks, averaging 3.72 lock/miles per hour over the whole voyage.

Saw kingfishers after Lower Barnwell Lock, before and after Cotterstock Lock and at Fotheringhay. Cottersock Lock now has an Electric guillotine gate. Had to wait 35 minutes at Elton Lock while Drake Towage fitted some chains to one side of the lock. We had lunch while we waited. Saw more kingfishers at Sibbington and Wansford Railway Bridge and Little Grebes below Water Newton and at Ferry Meadows. Moored at the Boat House and went to the pub for dinner. A cloudy but dry day.

Tuesday 4th October 2005

From Orton Lock No 37 to Peterborough Junction arriving at 10:45 am. The time taken was 50 minutes. 2.50 miles and No locks, averaging 3.00 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 591 hours 35 minutes total cruising time, 1,319.38 miles and 880 locks, averaging 3.72 lock/miles per hour over the whole voyage.

On the way from the Boathouse to Peterborough I saw a knigfisher sitting in a tree. We stopped for 35 minutes on the embankment for a pumpout and shopping. Arrived home in fine weather.
