Tuesday 28th May 2002

At Aynho Bridge No 190

Returned to Aynho after almost a month to see our repainted boat. Spent the day unpacking, Beryl sorting out all our stuff while I went home in the car and returned by train. The last of the sign writing and a few finishing off jobs (including putting the windows back) were being done.

Wednesday 29th May 2002

From Aynho Bridge No 190 to Banbury Lock No 29 arriving at 4:15 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 25 minutes. 6.88 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.18 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 123 hours 35 minutes total cruising time, 268.88 miles and 193 locks, averaging 3.74 lock/miles per hour over the whole voyage.

We had lunch on the boat before setting off. The Eperspacher heating system is not working but could not get it fixed at Aynho or by the firm recommended at Banbury. Quite a few boats on the move today. Moored before the lock and had dinner at the Exchange (Fish & chips and vegeburger £5 for the two meals).

Thursday 30th May 2002

From Banbury Lock No 29 to Slat Mill Lock No 26 arriving at 1:20 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 25 minutes. 3.13 miles and 4 locks, averaging 2.95 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 126 hours total cruising time, 272.00 miles and 197 locks, averaging 3.72 lock/miles per hour over the whole voyage.

Went up through Banbury Lock and moored by the shopping centre for 90 minutes while we went to Somerfield and a couple of other shops. Stopped for 15 minutes at Sovereign Wharf for pumpout £12, gas £12.50, diesel 131 litres at 30p. Saw a reed bunting before Bourton Lock. Moored for lunch . a little way past Slat Mill lock. A windy day with sunshine and showers

Friday 31st May 2002

From Slat Mill Lock No 26 to Fenny Compton Wharf arriving at 1:00 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 55 minutes. 7.63 miles and 9 locks, averaging 4.24 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 129 hours 55 minutes total cruising time, 279.63 miles and 206 locks, averaging 3.74 lock/miles per hour over the whole voyage.

Stopped for water at Cropredy and Beryl went to get some bananas at the shop. Came up through all the locks meeting only a couple of boats on the way. Saw a Jay on the summit. Tried to moor at the south end of Fenny Marina to speak to the engineers but it was too shallow so we had to moor by the shop. The engineers could not help with our Eperspacher problem but gave me the number of a firm who said they would do the job at Braunston. Had lunch on the move.

From Fenny Compton Wharf to Priors Hardwick Bridge No 123 arriving at 4:05 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 10 minutes. 6.25 miles and No locks, averaging 2.88 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 132 hours 5 minutes total cruising time, 285.88 miles and 206 locks, averaging 3.72 lock/miles per hour over the whole voyage.

A pleasant run along the summit. Saw a Green Woodpecker in a field near bridge 125. A mostly sunny day with some wind.
