Came up the locks from Northampton, some of the pounds were very low. It started to rain as we went through the last 4 locks. Stopped for lunch at the usual mooring, before the bridge.

Set the washing machine going and came through the tunnel passed two boats coming the other way and a maintenance flat doing work in the tunnel. Stopped on the visitor moorings and went into the canal museum shop. Spoke to the people on Higgler who were moored near us.

Came down the locks, passing two boats going up, and went on to Cosgrove. Had lunch on the move. Walked round the village and had a drink at the Barley Mow then went back in the evening for dinner (Cargrilled Lamb Cutlets £5.25 each, Profitter Rolls £2.25 each) very good. A day of sunshine, cloud and some rain.

Found a maintenance flat adrift as we came through Milton Keynes. Saw the man from Alchera on a bridge then his wife waved from their house as we passed. Went through the lock and filled with water. Moored opposite the Bridge Inn. A windy day with heavy showers and sunny periods.

Walked into Bletchley for some shopping and to post Beryl's Easter presents to the girls. I bought 4 mugs at the Co-op (£9.96). Went on and stopped after the lock for lunch . Another windy day with showers and sunny periods

Two boats went up the three locks in front of us and later two more followed behind. Saw a pair of Mandarin ducks after the locks. Moored, briefly, outside the Globe by bridge 111.

As we were setting off "Adventurer" came along, a 60 foot narrowboat crewed by a mother, her 16 year old daughter, a son, Howard, slightly younger and her 9 year old daughter, Ruth.We went through the locks with them and stopped for lunch on the mooring rings near the Red Lion bridge.

After lunch we met up, by arrangement, with "Adventurer" at the water point at Marsworth Junction, where they were having lunch and filling with water. We then went up the locks and moored at the top. We went to the Grand Junction Arms hoping to get a meal but they were changing management there and had no food today. A day of sunshine and cloud with a few showers.

Saw a kingfisher in Tring cutting. Came down through all the locks with Adventurer. Stopped by Waitrose to pick up the post then had lunch at the Highwayman brasserie and bar (£14.90 for pasta and drinks for us both).After lunch did some shopping in Waitrose.

Came down the locks with Adventurer but a heavy rain shower prompted us to stop above the lock. A dry and mostly sunny morning but less sun and some showers in the afternoon.

More locks with Adventurer. Picked up some rubbish on the prop just before the lock. Moored for the night some way after the lock and cleared the prop in the rain.A dry morning with some sun, rain at lunch time and showers in the afternoon.

Stopped for water just above Cassio Lock then went through the lock and had a pumpout (£10) at Bridgewater boats then went on and waited at the lock while Adventurer had their pumpout. Saw a kingfisher. Moored at Tesco for lunch. I slipped and fell flat while mooring the boat.

Came down to here with Adventurer and moored below the lock. A day of showers and some sunshine.

Waved goodbye to Adventurer, who set off before us. Went down the locks with Wenda, a short narrowboat. Saw our first brood od ducklings this year at Uxbridge Lock. Had lunch at The Turning Point (Fuisilli with Salmon and dill £6.95, Lamb Madras £5.95) very good.

Moorings at Tesco's were very crowded but we squeezed our way in beside a barge. A rainy day.

After three nights at Tesco's Bulls Bridge we set off down the canal. Met Adventurer at Norwood top lock and Eddie and Valerie helped us through the lock. At the Hanwell flight nine boats were coming up as we went down. Stopped for lunch and to wait for the tide just before the lock.

Took 1 hour 15 minutes to get from Brentford (straight through the lock at level water) to Teddigton Lock. Went through the barge lock with a lot of cruisers. Went out to dinner at L'Auberge at the Kings Head (Coq au vin £8.50, Duck £11.95). A cold but mostly dry and sunny day.

Came up the Thames, which was running fast, and turned into Shepperton Marina, hitting the bank due to the fast flow. Filled with diesel (130 litres £31.20) and had lunch.

Below the weir at Shepperton was like a massive whirlpool as we came into the River Wey. Paid £38 for a seven day licence and a £10 deposit on a lock key. Saw a kingfisher just after the lock. Moored a little way above the lock.

Went into Weybridge to do some shopping at Waitrose. Moved up through Town Lock and moored beside Katherine J outside the Pelican pub. Fred and Joyce arrived by car around 11.30 and we had a chat and a coffee on the boat and lunch in the pub (3 Turkey and 1 Beef roast dinner £21 in total) After lunch Katherine J moved off and Fred and Joyce left about 15.30. A dull day with rain and snow in the afternoon.
From Black Boy Bridge to Cart Bridge arriving at 2:00 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 5 minutes. 7.50 miles and 6 locks, averaging 3.31 lock/miles per hour. Stopped for water in Pyrford lock (35 minutes) then went on, having lunch on the move. A swan attacked our rear fender at Newark Lock. Stopped on the moorings by The New Inn.

The flood gates were closed when we got to Worsfold so we had to lock through. The river was running fast here.The reach above Triggs Lock seemed to be down about a foot but the stream was strong at Bower's Lock and I hit the side as I turned the corner across the flow to enter the lock. We got into Stoke Lock and closed the gates but found a "Flood Do Not Proceed" sign on the top paddles. Saw a kingfisher below the lock while we waited. Had lunch and were later joined in the lock by Guildford Empress. The lengthsman came just before 1pm and told us we could go on to Guildford.

Moored just below the bridge and went shopping in the town, including our weekly shop at Sainsbury's. The river is still running fairly fast. A cold dull day.

Started off at 8.25 to arrive at the Goldworth Bottom Lock at nine but we did not see a canal Ranger there as we had expected. When we got to Brookwood bottom lock we found that the top gates were padlocked so we had to wait inthe lock for 25 minutes for a Ranger to come and unlock the gate. Stopped for lunch in the Deepcut (Frimley or Pirbright) bottom lock.

Came up through the locks. Met a Ranger near the top, who didn't know we were coming. Stopped by some mooring posts just past the bridge and went to the King's Head for dinner (3 courses but the sweets and coffee free because they didn't have the lamb we ordered- £17.33 including 2 drinks).Arcadia II came along and moored as we were mooring and we spoke to them as we all came out of the Kings Head together. A mostly dry and cloudy day.

Stopped at the Canal Centre for water and pumpout (free) then went on through Ash Lock but had to stop at Wharf Bridge as the water level was too high for us to get under.

Spent over an hour and a half backing the boat a mile back to the lock before we could turn it. Had lunch. The trip boat John Pinkerton arrived while we were having lunch and went through the lock before us.

The lock keeper at Penton Hook warned us that the flow would probably be too great for us to get under Windsor Bridge and suggested we moor at Runnymeade. The red "caution strong stream" boards were out at both locks. Moored on the 24 hour mooring above the lock. Walked back into Staines and did some shopping (Beryl bought some clothes in M&S) and then had lunch at the Swan Hotel, on the river below the bridge, (Sausage & mash £4.65, Game pie - very good- £4.95). Got some shopping in Sainsburys and walked back to the boat. A sunny start to the day but showers in the afternoon. Stayed 3 nights waiting for the water to subside.

Stopped just below the lock for water (below the weir) then stopped for lunch on the moorings a little way past the lock.

Stopped at Windsor Marina but they had no diesel so went on to Bray Marina. Two men helped us moor the boat but the flood channel swept the boat out and broke the mooring post. Filled with diesel (130.3 litres £36.47). Moored on the moorings just before the bridge and went to Sainsbury's for shopping. A dry day with some sunshine.
