The Grand Canyon (Southside)

We started our trip from Phoenix, Arizona, and spent the first night at a campsite at Flagstaff. The next day we visited Sunset Crater before coming on to the Grand Canyon.

The Grand Canyon South Rim

It is the south side of the Grand Canyon that attracts about 90 percent of visitors to the National Park. From here you can look across to the North Rim 10 miles away. This may not seem a very long walk but the canyon is a mile deep so it's a long climb down and a longer climb up the other side. The north rim is 1,200 feet higher than the south. Most people making the trip go by road - a journey of 215 miles.

The Kolb Studio

Built around 1915 by the brothers Emery and Ellsworth Kolb early explorers and photographers of the canyon. The studio stands at the top of the Bright Angel Trail which leads across to the north rim.
