The Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah, at some twenty miles long is much smaller than the Grand Canyon but many people prefer Bryce Canyon because of the fantastic pinnacles of rock in delightful shades of pink, orange and yellow. The presence of trees in the canyon also adds to the charm of the place, as do the many types of wildlife to be seen here. Right: Looking down at the glowing colours from the canyon rim.

Right: The pillars of rock have been formed into these fascinating shapes by ice, snow and rain. Above: The wonders of the Canyon did not seem to completely satisfy the original owner, Ebeneezer Bryce, who described it as "A hell of a place to lose a cow". | ![]() |
Right: Just a short walk from the visitor centre and the campsite we can look down on these huge rock formations from the edge of the canyon.
Above: The scale of Bryce Canyon can be judged from the tall trees in the picture that are dwarfed by the surrounding rocks. |
