The South West - 1

Devon and Avon

The south-west of England has a charm and beauty of its own. The coast is a great attraction with an outstanding landscape and old ports and fishing villages but don't neglect the inland towns and cities that are well worth a visit.

Right: Ilfracombe Harbour in Devon lies below the attractive town and is surrounded by cliffs.

Above: Lynmouth, Devon, is built by the beach. At the top of the cliff is Lynton, its twin village, connected by a cliff-lift.

Right: The Harbour at Brixham in Devon.

Above: At Torquay the harbour is more of a pleasure marina and less of a fishing port.

Left: The Severn Bridge links the county of Avon with Gwent and England with Wales.

Left: Narrowboats on the River Avon at Bath.

Left: Bath outside the famous pump room and baths, looking towards Bath Abbey.
