Paris and the Normandy Coast

The pictures of Deauville and nearby Honfleur were taken on a trip in 1993 when we stayed at Bayeux. We also went to Paris, as I had in 1964, so there are pictures of the capital from both dates.

Right: Deauville at the mouth of the Touques River faces Trouville on the opposite side.

Left: The entrance to the river at Deauville is much used by yachtsmen.

Right: The harbour at Honfleur was built in the 17th century and is surrounded by even older buildings.

Left: Honfleur's history goes back to the 11th century and was captured and re-captured several times during the Hundred Years War between England and France.

Right: These vintage cars arrived and parked outside the Hotel in historic Honfleur.

Left: The Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel in front of the Louvre in Paris.

Right: Paris: under the Arc de Triomphe at the top of the Champs-Élysées is the grave of the Unknown Soldier, buried here on Armistice Day in 1920.
